Dee lay on his back on the foredeck of their boat, staring up at the puffy white clouds, gloomily aware that they had to be back in New York the following day, in time to work the late shift.
“I don’t wanna go back,” he sighed.
“Me neither,” Ryo agreed, sinking down beside his lover and handing him a cool drink. “The last couple of days have flown past.” Weekends spent out on the ocean were wonderful, but they never lasted long enough.
“Maybe we could just not go back, stay out here a few more days and tell everyone we were lost at sea…”
Ryo laughed softly. “Nice thought, but we told everybody we were taking the boat out so if we don’t show at work tomorrow night, the Chief will have the Coast Guard out looking for us. Then we’d get in trouble for staging a fake emergency and wasting their time.”
“I suppose. Guess that means we’ll have to rejoin the rat race.” Dee took a swig of his drink.
“On the bright side, there’s always next weekend,” Ryo pointed out.
“That’s true…”
“While the good weather lasts we should take the boat out whenever we can.”
