Great way of spending their one morning off, Dee thought gloomily. He and Ryo were working a big murder case; they were lucky to get this much free time, and how were they spending it? Grocery shopping. It had to be done, the cupboards at home were practically bare, but it still sucked.

“Don’t get those,” he said, trying to keep Ryo from reaching for a punnet of plums. “They’re nowhere near ripe.”

“That’s the whole point,” Ryo replied distractedly, brushing Dee’s hand away, and putting the plums in the trolley, checking the list to see what else they needed. “They’ll ripen in the fishbowl.”

Dee snorted with laughter. “Fishbowl?”

“What?” Tearing his eyes away from his shopping list, Ryo frowned at his lover.

“You said they’d ripen in the fishbowl.”

“Slip of the tongue, I meant the fruit bowl.” Ryo blushed faintly; now Dee would be teasing him all day for being an airhead.

“Okay, so what’s got you so distracted you’re gettin’ your words mixed up?”

“Something’s nagging me about the crime scene,” Ryo admitted. “There’d obviously been a struggle, except…”

“The fish tank was undamaged,” Dee finished. “You think it was staged?”

“Starting to look that way.”
