Dee lounged back in the leather seats of the limo, revelling in the sheer opulence surrounding him, and vaguely aware that he was embarrassing Ryo and annoying the hell out of Agent Spacey. He didn’t give a damn; this was the first time he’d ever gotten to ride in anything this plush and he didn’t want to miss a thing. It was sweet! The most luxurious ride imaginable.
Masses of legroom, a goddamned bar, and a TV… even a phone. Man, rich folks sure knew how to travel in style. Just imagine being chauffeured around the city in one of these things whenever you needed to go anywhere.
And it got even better; for this babysitting, sorry, bodyguarding gig they were being set up in one of the Plaza’s penthouse suites. Well, okay, that was for the witness’s sake, not for the comfort of the lowly bodyguards, but still, he and Ryo would get to live it up; fine dining courtesy of room service, and all the comforts they never got at home.
For that kind of luxury he could stand to work for the Sea Hag for a few days, hell, even a few weeks. Never let it be said that Dee Laytner ever passed up a cushy gig just because he didn’t like the person running things.
This Alicia Grant they were here to protect had to be loaded, since she was the one paying for the luxury accommodations. Not even the FBI had deep enough pockets to shell out for a month in a place like this; cheap motels were more their style.
Loaded didn’t even come close; turned out Alicia wasn’t just Leo Grant’s wife, she was the daughter of Bruno, the head of the Italian Mafia, New York branch.
And people said crime didn’t pay.
