A/N: This one’s a triple drabble.

People who didn’t know him well often considered Dee to be lazy, but they just didn’t understand him. He wasn’t afraid of hard work, and when he set his mind to doing something he’d put everything he had into it, being something of a perfectionist; he just preferred to conserve his energy for when it was really needed instead of wearing himself out doing something that wasn’t strictly necessary.

He never passed up the opportunity to take a nap; it meant he was almost always well rested and ready for anything the job or life in general could throw at him, whether that meant chasing down some criminal, pounding the sidewalks questioning potential witnesses, or helping Mother with maintenance at the orphanage.

If his apartment wasn’t always spotless, well, sometimes other things took precedence over vacuuming and dusting; not everyone could be as house-proud as Ryo. It didn’t mean he was a slob. So what if his home looked lived in? It was, and in Dee’s opinion a bit of mess made it more inviting, the sort of place you could lounge on the sofa without having to worry that you were squashing the cushions. Who’d want to live in some meticulously tidy show home where it looked like a mathematician with a setsquare and an unhealthy obsession with right angles had laid out the furniture? He’d never be able to relax after a hard day at work in a place like that.

Kicking his boots off at the door and hanging his jacket up, Dee sauntered across the living room and collapsed onto his sofa, feeling wrung out, glad to be off his feet at last. Lying there, he felt the peaceful familiarity of his surroundings soothing away the stresses of the day. It was good to be home.

The End
