The milestones of life are going by so fast it’s scary. “Yesterday I was a teenager and today… I’m twenty! That’s practically middle-aged!”
Bikky looks so stricken it’s impossible for Ryo not to laugh. “You make it sound like you’re over the hill when you’ve still barely begun to live! I wish I was twenty again! I’m not all that far off forty. If anyone’s closing in on middle age it’s me.”
“Yeah,” Dee agrees from where he’s lounging on the sofa. Caching Ryo’s offended look he hurriedly adds, “I was agreein’ about the house ape, not about you bein’ middle-aged, ‘cause you’re not; middle-age is like fifty plus, we’ve both got a way to go before we have to start thinkin’ about slowin’ down some.” He smirks at Bikky. “You’d better not let Carol hear ya talkin’ about twenty bein’ so terrible though. She’s got three years on ya and I guarantee she won’t be happy if you start intimatin’ she’s gettin’ old.”
Bikky’s face turns pale. “I hadn’t thought of that! She’d kill me!”
“Twenty means you’re almost an adult,” Ryo says with a smile. “One more year and you’ll graduate; after that your life will really begin.”
