A/N: 250 words, a double drabble and a half.
Valentine’s Day is probably keeping every florist in the city on the go, delivery people dashing about in all directions. More than a few find their way into the 27th Precinct, but even so, Ryo wasn’t expecting this, and he accepts the delivery with a bemused smile.
‘From Your Secret Admirer.’ That’s what the card on the huge bouquet of red roses in their fancy vase reads. Ryo doesn’t know quite what to do with them, there must be at least three dozen, maybe more, and they’ll take up half his desk, if someone doesn’t knock them off walking past.
One thing he’s sure of is that they’re not from Dee; this kind of overblown extravagance isn’t his partner’s style. Probably from the Commissioner then, in which case… Pretty though they are, Ryo relegates the flowers to a spot on the top of a nearby filing cabinet. He doesn’t want to encourage his boss’s overtures.
An hour later, while he and Dee are busily working at their desks, another delivery arrives for Ryo. Even though there’s no card, this time Ryo knows for sure it’s from Dee; a single, perfect, long-stemmed red rose in a box, its cut end carefully wrapped to keep it fresh. He catches Dee’s eyes and smiles; this one bloom means far more to Ryo than Commissioner Rose’s extravagance, and for the rest of the day he keeps it on his desk, where he can admire it.
He’ll thank Dee properly before their date this evening.
