weekend

well, this weekend i went to lake guntersville state park and went to a soap-making demonstration and a salve-making demonstration. it was really cool. my workplace sponsored the demonstrations/lectures as part of an appalachian/ herbal mountain medicine tour. the woman who showed us how to make herbal soaps said she studied herbs for 3 1/2 years and lived in the woods with no running water or electricity. she lived by herself out in the woods for 3 years. i admire her bravery and her letting go of material possessions and comforts for 3 years. wish i could do something like that. maybe it would enlighten me and make me a wiser person. or it would make me a more spiritual person. i know at the very least it would make me less obsessed with going out to eat in restaurants and seeing movies and having money to buy clothes, bedspreads, and stuff. i have often contemplated what it would be like to give up all my material possessions and live a simpler life.

i finally got the oxygen sensor put on my car this weekend. the guy said my intake gasket is leaking externally, but if it gets to leaking internally, the fuel could start mixing with the coolant and do engine damage. he said it would cost $400 to repair the intake gasket. fuck. i was having a great weekend until i got home from that little day trip and my dad told me all this. actually, he was the one that took my car to get the oxygen sensor put on while i was away at lake guntersville state park. my weekend was going great until i got home and found all that out about my car.

well, suffice it to say i don't have $400 to fix the intake gasket. i guess i will have to take my changes driving my car until i can get $400 saved.
