Fuck. I keep forgetting that the new YouTube embed codes don't mesh with LJ. Ugh.
1. Stars: Elevator Love Letter
I'm so hard for a rich girl
My heels are high, my eyes cast low
And I don't know how to love
I get too tired after midday, lately
I take it out on my good friends
But the worst stays in, oh where would I begin?
My office glows all night long
Its a nuclear show, and the stars are gone
Elevator, Elevator, take me home
I'm so hot for the rich girl
Her heels so high, and my hopes so low
'Cause I don't know how to love
I'll take her home after midnight
And if she likes, I'll tell her lies
How we'll be in love by the morning
I don't think she knows
That I'm saying good-bye
My office glows all night long
Its a nuclear show, and the stars are gone
Elevator, Elevator, take me home
My office glows all night long
Its a nuclear show, and the stars are gone
Elevator, Elevator, take me home
Don't go, say you'll stay
Spend a lazy Sunday
In my arms, I won't take
Anything away
Don't go, say you'll stay
Spend a lazy Sunday
In my arms, don't take
Anything away
2. the Cure: Close To Me
I've waited hours for this
I've made myself so sick
I wish I'd stayed asleep today
I never thought this day would end
I never thought tonight could ever be
this close to me
Just try to see in the dark
just try to make it work
to feel the fear before you're here
I make the shapes come much too close
I pull my eyes out
hold my breath
and wait until I shake...
but if I had your faith
then I could make it safe and clean
if only I was sure
that my head on the door was a dream
I've waited hours for this
I've made myself so sick
I wish I'd stayed asleep today
I never thought this day would end
I never thought tonight could ever be
this close to me
but if I had your face
then I could make it safe and clean
If only I was sure
that my head on the door
was a dream.
3. Dashboard Confessional- Hands Down
Breathe in for luck.
Breathe in so deep.
This air is blessed, you share with me.
This night is wild, so calm and dull.
These hearts, they race, from self-control.
Your legs are smooth, as they graze mine.
We're doing fine.
We're doing nothing at all.
My hopes are so high that your kiss might kill me.
So won't you kill me?
So I die happy.
My heart is yours to fill or burst,
to break or bury, or wear as jewelry.
Whichever you prefer.
The words are hushed, "let's not get busted."
Just lay entwined here, undiscovered.
Safe in here from all the stupid questions.
"Hey did you get some?"
Man that is so dumb.
Stay quiet, stay near, stay close, they can't hear.
So we can get some.
My hopes are so high that your kiss might kill me.
So won't you kill me?
So I die happy.
My heart is yours to fill or burst,
to break or bury, or wear as jewelry.
Whichever you prefer.
Hands down this is the best day I can ever remember.
Always remember the sound of the stereo.
The dim of the soft lights.
The scent of your hair, that you twirled in your fingers.
And the time on the clock, when we realized "It's so late!"
And this walk that we share together.
The streets were wet, and the gate was locked,
So I jumped it, and let you in.
And you stood at the door, with your hands on my waist.
And you kissed me like you meant it.
And I knew...that you meant it.
4. Lightspeed Champion: Sweetheart
Long walk down
a road that paves solemn ways
and a quiet insecurity
in your room
the feel of your naked flesh
and a frightened touch
Sweetheart, I'll give you all
I'll burn my books on love
and play it dumb
Be mine I won't act shy
I'm over that stage of my life
And my life
I, I, I, I,
oh, oh, oh, oh
On your couch
a whistle and a shaking hand
are near besides us
Trains stop kiss
but dagger off is what we missed
but I've gained a lifelong friend
Sweetheart, I'l give you all
I'll burn my books on love
and play it dumb
Be mine I won't act shy
I'm over that stage of my life
And my life
I, I, I, I,
oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweetheart, I'll give you all
I'll burn my books on love
and play it dumb
Be mine I won't act shy
I'm over that stage of my life
And my life
I, I, I, I,
oh, oh, oh, oh
5. Alkaline Trio: Blue Carolina
It's everything that I can do right now
To not think about you moving further off with every passing second
And every night of this lonely summertime
I feel you missing from my heart, a part was kidnapped from my soul
Well I can hardly wait until I get the sun and your lips both pressing on my skin
Well I can hardly wait until I feel that thrill my heart that starts inside your eyes
And a song in my head that burns so good on my tongue
Yes I will, yeah, yeah
Yes I will
The night is aging as the sun warms your face
Won't you turn around and stay for good, the air is getting much too cold
I am nervous and anxious, it really counts this time
And you know all my favorite singers have stolen all of my best lines
Well I can hardly wait until I get the sun and your lips both pressing on my skin
Well I can hardly wait until I feel that thrill my heart that starts inside your eyes
And a song in my head that burns so good on my tongue
Yes I will, yeah, yeah
Yes I will, yeah, yeah
Yes I will
Someday I'll burn this bed
Only two feet wide, but where I'll hide for the next 17 days
I will ask myself, "How badly do I want this?"
I really want this
Well I can hardly wait until I get the sun and your lips both pressing on my skin
Well I can hardly wait until I feel that thrill my heart that starts inside your eyes
And a song in my head that burns so good on my tongue
Yes I will, yeah, yeah
Yes I will, yeah, yeah
Yes I will
6. Hem: He Came to Meet Me
He came to meet me
On some July morning
He said he missed me
He came without warning
We walked for half a day
Got lost in my neighborhood
Came back another way
Just like I knew we would
And he came to meet me
He had some stories
He knew a few of mine
I had not heard his voice
For such a long time
My mind would race a bit
Come back to where we stood
I could not keep hold of it
Although I knew I should
And he came to meet me
I'd seen this whole day
Like it was drawing near
Sometimes I'd pray for it
Sometimes I'd shake with fear
Sometimes the only thought
That kept me in the night
Was one that I'd forgot
In summer's blinding light
And he came to meet me
I wrote myself a song
I could not speak what I'd done
He could've been here all along
He could've been anyone
But there is no one who
Could wake my heart like this
Could break my world in two
I felt a suddenness
I felt a suddenness
The day fell completely still
The dream was a lot like this
But I never knew until
He came to meet me
7. the Old 97's: Question
She woke from a dream
Her head was on fire
Why was he so nervous?
He took her to the park
She crossed her arms
And lowered her eyelids
Some day somebody's gonna ask you
A question that you should say yes to
Once in your life
Maybe tonight I've got a question for you
She'd had no idea
Started to cry
She said in a good way
He took her by the hand
Walked her back home
They took the long way
Some day somebody's gonna ask you
A question that you should say yes to
Once in your life
Maybe tonight I've got a question for you
I've got a question for you
8. Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros: Home
Alabama, Arkansas, I do love my Ma & Pa
Not the way that I do love you
Holy moly, me, oh my, you’re the apple of my eye
Girl, I’ve never loved one like you
Man, oh man, you’re my best friend, I scream it to the nothingness
There ain’t nothin’ that I need
Well, hot & heavy, pumpkin pie, chocolate candy, Jesus Christ
There ain’t nothin’ please me more than you
Ahh, Home
Let me come home
Home is wherever I’m with you
Ahh, Home
Let me come home
Home is wherever I'm with you
La la la la, take me Home
Baby, I’m coming Home
I’ll follow you into the park, through the jungle, through the dark
Girl, I’ve never loved one like you
Moats & boats & waterfalls, alley ways & pay phone calls
I’ve been everywhere with you
That’s true
We laugh until we think we’ll die, barefoot on a summer night
Nothin’ new is sweeter than with you
And in the sticks we’re running free like it’s only you and me
Geez, you’re something to see.
Ahh, Home
Let me come home
Home is wherever I’m with you
Ahh, Home
Let me come home
Home is wherever I'm with you
La la la la, take me Home
Baby, I’m coming Home
“Jade?”
“Alexander?”
“Do you remember that day you fell out of my window?”
“I sure do, you came jumping out after me.”
“Well, you fell on the concrete and nearly broke your ass and you were bleeding all over the place and I rushed you off to the hospital. Do you remember that?”
“Yes, I do.”
“Well, there’s something I never told you about that night.”
“What didn’t you tell me?”
“While you were sitting in the backseat smoking a cigarette you thought was going to be your last, I was falling deep, deeply in love with you and I never told you ‘til just now.”
“Now I know.”
Ahh, Home
Let me come Home
Home is whenever I’m with you
Ahh, Home
Let me come Home
Home is when I’m alone with you
Home
Let me come Home
Home is wherever I’m with you
Ahh, Home
Yes, I am Home
Home is when I’m alone with you.
Alabama, Arkansas, I do love my Ma & Pa
Moats & boats & waterfalls & pay phone calls
Ahh, Home
Let me come Home
Home is wherever I’m with you
Ahh, Home
Let me come Home
Home is when I’m alone with you
So some people disagree with my inclusion of Blue Carolina on this list as it is the most upbeat and rocking song on the list and it might jar the mood a bit. I personally think the change in tone shows the desperation of the Male Lead in the story. As we've established with the previous songs, that he had not realised how important the Female Lead was becoming to him. But after Sweetheart when he puts her on a train and waves her off, he realised how painful life is without her.
It's lyrics are the most fitting for what I was attempting here, but I am open to suggestions on a different song, but remember I'm going for STORY not music. I don't care how folksy or pretty a song is, if the lyrics don't match the section of the story I'm trying to tell? I can't use it.
LEMME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK?!?!?!??!
