"I'm sorry?" Penny blinked in confusion at her friend as Blaise sat down, looking utterly disgruntled.
"Did you know," Blaise began in the voice that Penny privately referred to as 'I am a teen and do not wish to work, ever,' "that today the world is ending? In apocalyptic fire and brimstone, no less."
"Oh, come now, B, I don't think..." But she was cut off. A ranting Blaise was not a Blaise that was easily silenced.
"Something called a Hellmouth - I mean, really, Pen, who the fuck comes up with these names. Hellmouth! Good fucking gods, what the fuck? Anyway. This whatever the fuck it is, is supposed to open up today at precisely 7:23pm and suck Hogsmeade down into, well, it's mouth of hellishness."
"7:23pm? But that's in...ten minutes!" Penny was alarmed. "I have to floo call the Aurors, I have to --"
"It's fucking rot is what it is," Blaise ranted on, "there is no fucking way some giant mouth is going to open up and swallow Hogsmeade. It'll just get apocalyptic indigestion."
"Blaise..."
"I'm serious! It's not going to happen and that's that. I'm....on strike! Yeah! Striking against the apocalypse."
The clock struck 7:23pm. Penny reflexively held her breath as Blaise sat, arms crossed, scowling. The clock ticked over to 7:24pm.
"SEE? Just a load of old bollocks. I mean really. Don't people know the world doesn't end when it's advertised on the same page as the return of Stubby Boardman?"
A strange thought occurred to Penny, and she got up and retrieved the paper, and read the article. "Blaise," she sighed, turning the paper around to show him, "This is about Stubby Boardman. See? 'Stubby Boardman promotes his 'Welcome to the Hellmouth' album in Hogsmeade tonight."
Blaise blinked. Several times.
"Oh."
"Yes."
"Well...fuck."
