At least, I hope they're gone. Bobby went out and sprayed the roses -- blooms and buds only. With luck, this will take care of them. We hate insecticides, and only use them when we absolutely have to ( Read more... )

I forget the name of the company I called to do the initial pest treatment, but I really liked the tech. She was young, late 20s, and has pets herself.

We have a large garden here -- over 200 rosebushes, most of them hybrid teas that required weekly spraying. I bought my husband a backpack sprayer (which he lugged around -- no way was he going to be dumb enough to put that on his bad back). We don't plan on having that many roses in Florida yet -- we'll start slowly. We have to leave our roses here (which is killing me) -- they're well-established here, and are on the wrong rootstock for Florida (fortuniana rootstock won't survive here unless you overwinter it in a greenhouse).

When I was down there, I could see hummingbird feeders in a neighbor's yard, and I have every intention of setting up a few myself.

Yes, please send your friend over! We'll practically be neighbors (and any advice she can give about finding good parrot stores in Florida will be most welcome. I'm spoiled by Bird Paradise in Burlington, NJ -- from what I understand, there's nothing like it in Florida -- at lest, in Central Florida).
