I started to say "circa 1990" because that's when my parents got their stereo (quite a good one for the price they paid). Funny -- Fritz has speakers on his porch that are identical to the ones I had on my stereo that I used from December 1985 to some point in 1989. They're still like new and somewhere in my parents' storage building.

My mains are old as well, and were manufactured around 1991, and were sold by Video Concepts when they were around. JBL HP 520s. I bought them in spring 1995 when they were going out of business for $299 each. They sat in stores (unsold) for $768 each for a long time and $499 each on sale for a long time too. They were out of the price range of their target customer. I got lucky and snagged a pair at just the right time between the big markdown and before they got sold. Although they're quite old, I plan on keeping them because of their sound. They were the best speakers I'd ever heard in a store, and what's funny is I offered them $399 each to take them off their hands and they'd always refuse, then I got them $299 each eventually. Patience paid off.

I listened to a lot of music on those Pioneer speakers like yours during the 1990s when my parents lived in Cherokee County and had those speakers in front of their living room. For their price, they sounded very good. Unfortunately, in their current house, they're in the dining room, which has a wood floor, and there's no place to listen to them properly.
