summary: For someone he'd hero-worshipped for so long, Steve Rogers in the flesh is a pretty big disappointment. For one thing, he keeps looking at Tony as though he reminds him of someone else, and even if he never says anything, Tony's pretty sure it's his father. A lifetime of not measuring up to Howard's expectations is more than enough, thank you very much, and he's certainly not going to make an effort to live up to any of Steve's. Steve's pretty clearly failed to live up to his expectations, in any case, and that's not hypocritical at all.
read it because of: love LOVE the plot twist in this! It takes a normal love story and spins it and just.. reminds me of so many movies that i've loved with a similar vibe (The Lake House .. sort of?) and .. ugh it was perfect!wonderful!lovely so obviously, Leashy - I will be needing more (and you know a coffee shop/bakery AU is ALWAYS a good thing.. just saying)

“It’s okay,” Tony interrupts, and he means it with every bit of his heart. “I promise you, it’s fine.”
“Bucky says you have to seize the moment,” Steve says, looking conflicted. “We could all be dead tomorrow.”
“He’s not wrong,” Tony agrees, though he kind of wants to kick Bucky anyway, just on principle. “But you still have to be sure. Right time, right person, it’s all up to you.”
