Still half asleep, I piled in the Explorer with Bill, Lynn, Scott (haven’t mentioned him yet, but you’ll have the pleasure of meeting him soon), and Cal. It’s great that Bill got his license just before we all flew out here. That meant we didn’t all have to cram into the Minivan with his parents, brother, and sister. This also meant that 50 Cent and his gang of dawg-stealing homies would be entertaining us with his magical way of words. I forgot my Discman this one time, and I would never do it again.
“Aww, can’t ignore us anymore, Dave?” pestered Scott.
I looked at him as if I had my headphones on, and pointed to my ears.
“I guess not, if that’s how you want to put it. I’m sorry I don’t have the same preference in music as yourself?” I said sarcastically. Hopefully that put him in his place. He’s not that kind of guy though. He’s the “I’m always right, no matter how much of an arrogant bigot I come off as.”
“What?”
“Nothing, you’re right.”
He looked at Bill who was sitting in the driver’s seat across from him with some puzzling display. Oh yeah. I guess it’s fun to see who can call Shotgun the fastest. It’s even more fun and less pathetic to make up rules about when you can and can’t call it. I’d rather not divulge any other such pettiness due to the embarrassment it may cause my “best friends.” Oh yeah, Lisa had to ride with Bill’s parents. Maybe she didn’t call shotgun fast enough.
Hell. Look, there it is.
The car ride pretty much set the mood for the hike, which wasn’t too bad. Oh, about the 2 girls. That’s Lynn and Lisa. They dressed in short-shorts, sandals, and a tee-shirt. That’s all well and good, except we’re hiking a freaking mountain. Picture the stereotypical super-model and place her and an equally stereotypical super-model friend in the middle of no where (…and you’d get an incredibly hot photo shoot, right? Ha, no. Sorry boys. This isn’t your kind of text I guess. ), with only a cell phone that doesn’t have a signal, and two hair brushes. That’s almost as funny as Lynn and Lisa.
We got to the top, congratulated ourselves, took some nice panoramic pictures with a cool camera that I want, and then groaned as we looked down at what we now had to descend. All in all, it was a great personal experience. I had never hiked anything before, much less half way across the country. It wasn’t all bad.
