maternal instincts kicking in

Constantine is at my feet as I type this. He's currently praning over something, I don't know what. Doggie's out on his nightly neighborhood stalk (we let him out at various hours of the day because we figured it's the easiest way to keep him from trying to escape, and anyway, he comes back home when he's hungry) so it can't be Doggie. Jacqui thinks it's a ghost, but I think it may be a rat or something. Jacqui's just been on a ghost trip because her department is convinced it has a ghost in residence and she thought she heard footsteps one time she was working late. How easy to be swayed by propaganda.

I have put the dog on my lap because he was barking quite crazily. Poor thing, it's praning! What I love about dogs in general is how they like being with you all the time. Constantine will find any of us humans and lie down at our feet if we don't pay him any attention, he just likes the company. Sometimes, he'll whimper to get you to play with him or tell him he's such a cutie, but in general, he just likes you around.

He loves it when you put him on your lap. He just relaxes, like he knows it's the comfiest spot anywhere. I guess this isn't strange for dogs, but Doggie grew up too soon and our last dog Patching didn't like laps. Daddy calls Constantine our lap dog. Haha.

Haha, now he's growling at the pieces of paper on the desk that's being blown by the electric fan.

I had wanted to write about getting my life back in order now that it's the end of November tomorrow and I won't care if I win Nanowrimo or not. Instead, I'm worrying about my puppy. Who's afraid of anything that moves.

I put him down again for a while and he's barking at the kitchen again. I worry about this because I'm gonna close the house up soon and sleep and leave him here in the house by himself. I hope he didn't get into a fight with a rat last night or anything and he's now traumatized. I mean who would want to get into a fight with a rat in the middle of the night, right?

Leaving him alone in the dark is reminding me of that scene from The Sixth Sense where Haley Joel Osment has to go to the bathroom late at night. Or that scene where the bullies lock him up in that scary room. *shiver*

Ah well. I'm going to bed. If ever it is a rat, I hope Constantine wins.
