Better all the time

I have finished a new one-track EP, called Better All the Time, and posted it to my bandcamp page. It is downloadable for free, if you so desire. Even if it is probably not the most easily listenable Moongazing Hare output yet, I am very pleased with the result, and I have wanted to put out something a little more raw and unprocessed for a while. It is droney and repetitive and more than a little blown-out, towards the end.

I described it as such: "One track recorded in our living room, with a laptop in front of the amplifier. Picture of Mongolian horses fighting. Clumsy fingerpicking, meteorological guitar noise and scattered bells like escaping birds. Repetition forcing a structure onto something that is initially quite shapeless.

And that is still how I think about it.

You don't have to care about or love MH to be my friend, but I do, so I hope (and am fairly sure) that if you are reading this you can live with occasional updates on my vanity projects.

Oh, and incidentally, my friend Simon (whose grimly fabulous music, under the moniker Own Road, is worth a listen) runs a cottage-industry called Dendron Records and will be putting out some MH CDrs in the new year. I will be making and distributing a few Own Road thingies, as well. This is basically an ideal collaboration for me, as I genuinely admire his work and aesthetic.

Oh, and I am 30 years old, now. I also got unreasonably excited about downloading a proper runic font (as in only really useful for obsessive academics who REALLY care about the shape of each rune and don't mind sitting with the character map in front of them) for my macbook.
