Got a question? Chances are the answer is behind the cut!
What exactly is
badgerchallenge?
badgerchallenge is a community that issues challenges every few months. All challenges will be related to the Hufflepuff House in some way, whether it's about a student or a virtue of the house itself. We could focus on a specific event from the books from Hufflepuff's POV or we may claim non-sorted canon characters and write/draw about them being in Hufflepuff. There's really no end to the themes we can choose.
So who can join?
badgerchallenge is open to all writers, artists and icon makers. You do not have to consider yourself a Hufflepuff to join in the fun. In fact, a number of our themes won't be dealing with the characters from Hufflepuff, but with characters from other Houses. (Yes, even Slytherin...)
Can anyone post?
Only members of the community can post. Anyone can watch, though, and we highly encourage it!
Wow! How does all this crazy fun work?
The rules are simple. About a week before the challenge opens, the moderator will announce that challenge's theme along with a list of prompts to claim. You can take as many as you like and prompts can be claimed more than once. A week later, the community will open posting to all members for two months. Post your fic/artwork/icons during that time. Once the challenge is closes, the moderator will post a master list of the fics/art/icons. Then simply wait for the start of the next challenge!
Someone chose the same prompt that I did!
Which is a-okay, my friend. Hufflepuffs believe in sharing. Prompts can be chosen more than once.
I chose a prompt. Now what?
Get to writing/drawing/icon-making! You have two months from when the challenge is announced to post your fic/art/icons.
For fics, is there a word limit?
No limit, but there is a 500 word minimum.
Is there a specific category of fic/art/icons?
We are very open to all types of ideas. Gen/Het/Slash is fine. It can be angsty, it can be funny. It's all up to you, as long as it's inspired by the prompt!
Do you want it posted using a format?
Yes! And thank you so much for asking!

All fics/art/icons must go behind a lj-cut! No exceptions! Icon makers may have up to three preview icons.
Do you want the posts tagged?
You are so smart for asking! We do! We like things tagged a very specific way so that the community can be searched easily. It's all about making things simple. :)
Your post will have two tags. The first will be used to identify who you are. Because if you draw or write something I really like, I want more! This will let me find it. Here's the format.
author: h_abbott (or artist: h_abbott or icon-maker: h_abbott)
The next tag will be to identity the theme that you're participating in. Here's the format for that.
theme: Professor Sprout (or whatever the theme title is, like loyalty or the Tri-Wizard Tournament)
That's really kinda obsessive-compulsive. Are you sure you don't belong in Ravenclaw?
It's called diligence, which is totally a Hufflepuff virtue. ;)
Can I post more than one fic or piece of artwork?
You certainly can! If you want to post one drabble every day of the month, go ahead. Show off that Hufflepuff work ethic!
This current challenge is closed. Can I still post my fic/art/icons?
Yes, but only if there is not another challenge going on. You can post before a challenge, after a challenge, just not during a challenge.
I don't want to post to this community. Can I post at my journal and just provide a link?
No siree, bob! No fake lj-cuts or links allowed. You are more than welcome to link your work to your personal journal or other communities, but the work must be 'housed' here at
badgerchallenge.
I have a really cool Hufflepuff story. Can I post that?
Only if it happens to match the theme and the prompt you choose. Anything not created specifically for the challenge will be deleted. You can always head over to
huff_fics, a community for Hufflepuff stories and post your story there.
Can I pimp my RPG or new community here?
Sorry! The only posts allowed are mod posts, theme posts and the actual challenge posts themselves. Anything else will be deleted. (Harsh, I know. But those are the rules!)
I have a really cool theme idea. What do I do?
Yay! We love new theme ideas. Simply comment to
this post and your theme will be considered!
Where can I find what themes have already been used?
Right here I have a really obvious question that should have been addressed in the F.A.Q. Now what?
Oops! Simply comment to this post and ask the question and the F.A.Q. will be updated. :)
I have a really obscure question that wasn't answered. Now what?
Simply comment to this post.
Are there other sites like this for the other Houses?
Honestly, I'm not sure. If you know of any please let us know. Or if you run one like this and want to affiliate, just comment to this post!
