I watch a lot of movies and I follow a lot of shows. I love stories in every shapes and I love series because if you do it right you really have the time over several years to develop a character to its full potential.
At the moment I'm following: House, Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives, though to be honest, I have only watched the first couple of episodes from House this year. Last season was so boring that even the Cuddy CPR they performed this year did not really manage to revive the spark of interest I had for that show the first few years.
But there are two shows I'm following religiously: Dexter and Castle.
Dexter's new season is absolutely fabulous and the last epsiode S05E08 the most darkly twisted moving stuff I've seen on screen in a long time.
Castle is another kettle of fish. It's a cracky show. It's not serious and doesn't take itself seriously. This is no Wire or Sopranos and it doesn't aspire to be. This is a show that knows its place.
The premise is preposterous (famous writer follow cops on cases), the cases are not that interesting but that's ok because nobody watches it for the plot. People watch that show for the Castle/Beckett ship - the true heirs of the Mulder and Scully dynamic. But we shouldn't be surprised. Castle is essentially a Phile show, Rob Bowman is one of the directors, and the show is crammed with hilarious pop culture truffles - so you get lines such as "I'm not asking you to dye your hair red and call me Mulder, here.". The dialogues are great, Beckett uses sarcasm like a whip, the secondary characters are pretty good (Castle's mother is fabulous) and if you're still not convinced I'll just say this:
HE'S A GENIUS ASSHOLE.
SHE RUNS IN HEELS.
So anyway all this to say that I would love to discuss these two shows, but sofar the only place I found is over on TWOP. Surely there must be some LJ com where eps are discussed as they air? Let me know.
