First Time's A Charm

I have been following this community for a couple of weeks. A while ago, a post written by ran mouri82 presented the idea of running a word search on the term ‘unbetaed’.  Because I had wanted to give word searching a try, and I’m currently on bed-rest with nothing better to do, I decided that it couldn’t be that bad of a way to spend a few hours. Might contain grammatical & spelling errors

I think that's a definite, if the summary is anything to go by...

There is no longer a doubt about that, because I just checked. There is unnecessary capitalization, tense switches, sentence fragments and run ons all over the place.

In example, this is a direct quote from the first chapter's page. "Martha realizing that all the equipment was for her, she donned on her housecoat and steadied herself to be subjected to pruning and primping."

*winces ever so slightly*

Ahh well, at least we proved the old 'don't judge a fic by it's summary' quote wrong!

When the opening statement is "Dawn rose fresh and rosy-fingered." you know you're in for some bizarre mental imagery.

While I'm on the subject, I also love this gem of dialogue. "Oh. My. God. I can’t believe I forgot I’m meant to be getting married TODAY!”
What makes this such an egregious error is the fact that, three paragraphs prior, they had Martha remember that she was at a bachelorette party the previous night. That just makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Sounds like Torchwood have been busy with amnesia pills. Slightly mean on her wedding day, but there...

I have never watched Torchwood, and I very recently started watching Doctor Who. By recently, I mean to say yesterday evening. Excuse my ignorance that I'd never heard of amnesia pills/retcon before. After looking up that substance (bless google), that makes much more sense to me!

I'll stand by the fact that the choice in specification is peculiar, though. 'I forgot I'm meant to be getting married' seems oddly specific if I'm not missing something.(As we've established, it's fairly likely that I'm missing quite a bit!)

So the line from The Odyssey mentioned in the summary is actually the opening sentence? I guess that's one way to do it. They do say the opening and ending sentences are what make or break literary works... Now I'm curious. Did the author perchance end it with "the rest is silence"?
