Since well is L's name Lawliet? Is this canon somehow? Is he the Juliet of law? Should L really be Juliet, or should he be Romeo? ORZ I'm confuzzled.

I still don't get why the L is there. I assumed it stood for Lawliet, but the book lists them together. Is L actually his first name, and Lawliet his surname?
