[After the past few weeks of mayhem - but not in a bad way - the lull of activity here this week has left him bored. He's wandering around the manor trying to find something to do when he finds himself in the room with the instruments on impulse ( Read more... )

[Since she'd looked over most of the Manor and some of the immediate grounds, today seemed as good a day as any to check out the third floor of the building that they'd been more or less imprisoned in. She'd heard the faint music before she made it to the floor that it was coming from but she didn't think too much of it. Maybe the Author was trying out a new tactic. Ambiance through music. The thought makes her grin to herself.

Once she reaches the third floor though, it's pretty obvious where the music is coming from. Steph pokes her head into the room, ready for anything.... except the sight of Dean playing a cello in the corner of the room. She walks over, leaning against the wall and unable to stop the little smirk that crept onto her lips.] Cello? Is this your big dark secret or something? Because you don't really seem the type. Not that there's anything wrong with... musical inclinations or anything.

[And then she remembers that Dean is on to the whole "Batgirl" thing and shuts up. Trying to quit while she was still ( ... )

[He laughs a little, shaking his head, fingers still weaving the melody as he talks.] Never played one before today. Hell, I've never even picked one up before. Guess I got caught up in the author's talent 'Freaky Friday' thing.

[The Author again. Of course. Dean was probably being affected by the same thing as Sally. But that meant...] Then what did you loose? That's how it works right? You get a talent, but you loose one of your talents? I'm pretty sure I'm still totally myself. At least I'm not feeling the urge to start playing the piano or sew or anything.

[He stops playing.] It doesn't matter what I lost. Wasn't important. [...As far as he's concerned, they can keep it.]

[Okay. Apparently you hit a sore spot there, Steph. She frowns slightly and shrugs. If he doesn't want to talk about it right now, she's not going to press him. But she is curious about what sort of "talents" Dean could have that he won't talk about.] Right then. So you'd rather be a musician than... whatever you could do before? Was it really that bad?

[Oops. So much for not prying.]

[He rises an eyebrow at her. Well, he needs to deflect somehow, and quickly.] Something wrong with being a musician?

[She raises an eyebrow.] Um. Nothing? You just seem more like the type of guy who'd be into guitar or drums or something less... classically oriented. I guess you learn something new everyday. [The last statement is punctuated with a shrug.]

But it seems like most people that the Author messes with kind of want to be back to their normal selves, you know?

Hey: I got what I was given.

Yeah. Usually things like this only last a week, so they shouldn't get too worried.

Yeah. I get that. I guess you're lucky it wasn't flower arranging or something super masculine like that.

[She gives him a slightly exasperated look.] I was talking about you. And whatever your missing talent is, which you're obviously not going to talk about. I can tell that you're avoiding the subject you know.

[She gives him a Look, but manages to bite her tongue.]

Fine. [That just means she's going to have to put those famous bat-detective skills to work.]
