[He looked out of the hotel window where he'd woken up. It was nice, fairly high-class, which suited him just fine. Despite the fact he was definitely not where he fell asleep, he's seemingly unruffled. Actually, he's finding the prospect of being kidnapped... almost amusing. Or at least, that's what it would look like ( Read more... )

Well... Unfortunately it's impossible to not sound crazy with this all. [Says the teenage detective to the murderer he'd studied as a work of fiction.]

This place is some kind of realm unto its own; It changes week to week - right now it's mimicking Germany, but normally it appears as a large sort of Manor house on large grounds. Trying to find the boundaries of it used to just run into an impenetrable barrier, although now some directions will get one returned back to their room instead. Much as there's been a great deal of effort expended, we don't know yet how we end up here or how people occasionally get returned home, but the people brought here come from all different worlds and times - I've met people here from drastically different worlds, past eras, and other versions of Earth.

The individual in control doesn't directly interact with this space, nor does she seem to realize that we're real - thanks to a mouthpiece of hers of sorts, we know her as the Author, and everything I've found since arriving here does seem to point towards her being a teenage girl with no clue what she's doing.

[If there's one thing Hannibal knows, it's a liar. And the person he was talking to at least believed it was true. and the evidence certainly seemed to support the facts. So... mass hallucination? Not unheard of but exceedingly rare.]

Tell me, where are you from?

[Saguru's pretty used to that aspect, really - he almost expects most new arrivals to not believe him at first and then adjust later; firsthand experience is much better for getting across things like this than trying to explain it ...but warnings help.]

[And the shift in questions is something that's not entirely unexpected, as much as his accent is probably noticeable enough to almost answer it anyway. For the moment, he's just...going to hold cards close, although sooner or later it's probably safer to let on that he's cheating on what he knows than play unnecessary games with this one.] England, mostly; I've traveled quite a bit.

[He nods] And spent a fair bit of time in Japan, I'd wager. Maybe I should have worded my question differently. Which was your country of residence at the time you were abducted?

[The question is innocent enough. Just trying to disprove the mass hallucination theory.]

[Rounded L's and R's, dropping R's off ends of words occasionally ... certainly living up to the fictional version; he'd had a lot of people catch that his speech was a little funny, but not many could pin down what it was.]

Mmm, complicated. I'd been in Paris, but it was a short stay; I've been spending part of the year in Japan, the other part in London. [He was a little curious where this was going - he didn't think he'd have registered as a person of interest, which means it'd probably relate to trying to make sense of the environment, it was just a matter of what ideas or theories were coming up that he wasn't sure of.]

[...So mass-hallucination was out, because it was rarely global. all the facts were adding up to what should be impossible. It also means that she can reach far. The other question would be her purpose in doing so, but those would only ever truly be known to herself, so time... to move on.]

What takes you so far across the globe? [It sounds like a work arrangement. Yes, this is the part where he's starting to decide how interesting you are as well.]

[Wait until you find someone whose point of origin is something like Toshima, or Namek, or the Pebbled Sea...]

Study and work - more often work; I'm, roughly speaking, a consulting detective. [And yes, it's said as if this is perfectly normal of an idea for him - it's honestly the most accurate term he can think of for what he's been doing ... even if it is something that's not exactly a normal job title. Nevermind flying the Holmes Fanboy flag.]

[A detective? hmm. So far he's only found two worth his time and interest, and that took him being incarcerated. There was respect there for Crawford, too.] Big agencies or smaller work?

[As much as there's the ego-twinge where he'd like to earn some respect? Being eighteen is either going to weigh in his favor or badly against him, and rationally speaking he knows being "interesting" has its own hazards and it might be just as well to go with less direct interest... Not that it stops him from being intrigued himself.] Both and either; I'm not officially a part of anything on paper, for obvious reasons... I've mostly specialized in the more bizarre or unusual criminal cases.

[It's doing both. the young age means that you're less experienced than you could be, but it also means you're still learning and he's interested in where that could lead.]

Why do they come to you, specifically? Why you in the first place?
