[Naoto study's the Blackberry carefully, it seemed like an older model of the phone, but still, in a place such as this it was rather odd to see a phone like this. Considering they appeared to be in the renaissance period.]

I wonder why a contraption such as this exists in what appears to be the renaissance?

[She turns it around, the scene you now ( Read more... )

Ah... welcome to the Manor. [Tris's tone is a bit... bitterly amused.] This place isn't normally like this, and it seems everyone gets one of these Blackberries. You're now a character in a teenaged girl's horrible story, and the plot changes from week to week. Sometimes they run longer.

My name is Trisana Chandler, and I've been here a while.

So... lets see if I can get this correctly. The people who are here have been kidnapped, by some teenage girl and we are now stuck inside her story?

[As much as she finds that hard to believe, due to events in her life of another world behind the television, it could make sense... in some weird way.]

My name is Naoto Shirogane, and you already guessed that I'm new here. It's a pleasure to speak to you.

Essentially, yes. [At least you don't think she's crazy.] A pleasure to meet you, Naoto.

[Chime takes this opportunity to stare right into the blackberry. Yeah, Tris's weird glass necklace? Isn't a necklace. It's a cat-sized glass dragon.] And this is Chime. She was a... happy accident, and my first student made her.

[Okay, a glass thing that moves, now that is something to be curious over.]

Hmm, that's interesting. How did a student manage to make something like that?

Ambient magic like mine- and his- tends to do what it will until the mage has mastered the fine art of self-control. His magic was the 'seed' that gave her life, and then she took her own form. A great many things back home that would otherwise be considered impossible have happened simply because the mages in question didn't know they couldn't. [Tris's hand is going to a black ribbon around her neck. Nope. Totally not talking about herself.]

I see... so the place you are from, is a place where magic exists in the way in which you say.

[She pauses for a moment, not sure what to really think, so much information in such a short amount of time.]

I could explain it to you a bit later in more detail. In the simplest explanation, ambient magic is magic expressed through something else- such as the weather, cooking, woodworking, or glassmaking.

Ah, I think I can understand the magic from where you are from a little more. Although it's not something I've ever come across myself.

Well, when I was young I'd never even heard of ambient magic, so ambient magic is hardly the end of things back home. But it makes a good starting point.

I'll make sure to have in mind the fact that there is magic in this place.

There are all sorts, more than just the kind I'm used to. I could share some of my notes on what I've observed with you, if you like.
