006 - Near - [Audio/Private to Hiiro Yui] - Because this 88 pounds of useless needs his meatshield

Jun 13, 2011 08:46

[Near's not exactly in his best spirits this week, particularly not after the events of the week prior. It's not so much what he remembers of last week's event, but precisely what he doesn't, that frustrates him.

What he remembers ... No, the only thing he remembers, is that Amane and B had seen his face. If Amane knew of his name, then so would ( Read more... )

[[The ex-pilot recognizes that as 'I need your help' in Near-ese. He had almost figured that he may be getting a note from the young albino, in fact he has been looking around for just that one person. Knowing Near has limited ability in survival situations, he's not about to just let him on his own unless he's told to leave. There's really no need to reply, he's sure Near knows that the moment he gets this, he'll be on his way.

It's almost like dealing with Wufei sometimes, but a lot less annoying when it comes to Near using his last name as his only name. It's not that he's unaccustomed to it, it's just something frequent back home. He takes a look at the map drawn out for him and indeed can figure out easily where Near's at in conjunction to the geometric shapes given as landmarks. He's had worse maps before, or no maps at all, so this isn't too much of a problem.

Not a lot of time between receiving the message and moving swiftly passes and Hiiro finds his way, rounding on the younger man in the maze. It's a good idea he waited here, not many people would go venturing into it if they were otherwise lost without somewhere to go.]]

I think collaborating could be arranged, Near.

[Prompt.]

Good. Your assistance is much appreciated.

[And now to touch on a subject that's been troubling him for quite some time.]

But first I'd like to clarify something. Do you remember anything regarding the events of last week?

[[That situation seems solidified in itself and he's already plotting out safe areas around the yard. His paranoia may just have paid off in the long run. From the surroundings, his glance moves momentarily to Near and then back to their surroundings again. He's scouting it, maybe this wouldn't be a bad place if he can fashion some sort of something, he's thinking it out while Near continues on.]]

No. Nothing.

[[He's not liking that either.]]

I'm not particularly pleased about it either, I'm assuming you don't either?

I thought not. No, I don't.

[All he knows is that Amane and B had seen his face. If Amane knew of his name, then he should assume Yagami would too.

As far as how they got it, Near has no memories regarding the event. He had suspected he was under the influence of the notebook, but with Yui's confirmation of similar memory loss, that theory's quickly dismissed. More annoying was that Near had been both aware of and okay with others knowing his face and name last week, but once again, without any memories as to why. There must have been a reason, but the memory gap's unyielding.

Oh well, no use dwelling on what can't be fixed. There are more pressing matters at hand.]

I chose this place because of it's inconsistencies. The maze is always changing and entrances are hardly ever located in the same place twice. If we familiarize ourselves with the underlying structures of the maze, perhaps find a pattern regarding the shifting entrances, it would be easy to handle cases of intrusion.

Thoughts?

[[He's perplexed over the both of them losing their memories of last week. He knows something was important, but he can't remember what to save his life, not one single thing to bring his mind around. It's very unlike him and he's not very pleased, once more.]]

Hn.

[[Arms crossed, he regards Near as he begins to speak, he's had the same idea as Hiiro and this is why he likes working with Near. Despite Near not being able to really care for himself in instances of survival like this, he knows that Near and himself are well matched when it comes to fore-thought. He takes a look around, there'll be some modifications to be had, they can use certain things as key points.]]

Entrances won't be a problem. I am used to navigating blindly through bases with numerous hallways. We can press certain items into the dirt in key locations to see where and how they move, if at all they move. I'll make as many maps as I can so we can collate the information.

[[Have that bit of a tidbit, Near, with the notion that he hasn't given anyone else that much. Along with the notion that he knows just how smart you are and that you'll probably be able to pick up a bit more of a profile concerning him. He's being friendly in his own way.

With a quick glance around, then back to Near he almost thinks the young man looks lost when he's not surrounded by his toys.]]

Shelter first.

I agree.

[One of the things Near likes about Hiiro is that with him, Near doesn't have to explain or justify his reasoning in order to acquire the latter's understanding and cooperation. Yui's perfectly capable of figuring it out on his own given minimal to no prompting.]

I have collected some notes already regarding what I've seen of the maze so far. However, most of the observation was done solely from this very spot.

In any case, Yui, I don't expect to keep you here forever. No doubt you will have to leave for supplies for shelter or food. I have therefore programmed the blackberry for such occasions. If anything happens and I am fortunate enough to have the phone with me, I have a pre-written emergency message wired to be sent to you and a handful of other residents at the press of a button. If I, for some reason, do not have my phone with me, then we will rely on a timer set on this device. When you depart, I will activate the timer. Every 10 minutes, the timer goes off. The blackberry will be recording video until either the timer goes off or I reset it. If the timer goes off, the device will automatically send you the copy of the video recording. If I reset the timer before this happens, the device will restart the recording from the very beginning. [He doesn't explain the purpose of the recording, since it should be clear that it's meant to provide Yui with clues as to Near's situation should anything go wrong.] Of course, the blackberry may get destroyed. So as a last resort, every couple of minutes, the exact numerical value of which will be determined according to circumstance, I will send you a short alert. This can be audio or set to vibrate, according to your preference. If you do not receive the alert within that period of time and no video recording is sent, that means the phone is destroyed.

Hopefully, it won't come down to that.
