002 - Near - [Audio] - Please bear with him and his tl;dr

[A week of waiting had been enough. Near had see how the epidemic had subsided just as quickly as it had come, and all over the course of exactly one week, just as he was told. The event itself paved way for other advantages as well. Near did not have to worry about any sort of physical threats due to everyone else falling ill, and since those who ( Read more... )

I have been a resident here since May 28th. I cannot recall much myself what has transpired in my first three weeks considering I was deathly ill during the early stages of my residential stay.

I fear I will have very little to contribute to your cause for the justice system other than being a forensic scientist. An important role yes, but not one for deducing any solid claims on the forefront of the investigation process should you need my assistance.

Was this illness also part of a plot similar to the one that had just recently occurred?

[Oh, you actually think Near is asking about crimes for the sake of justice and the good of all rather than just selfish purposes. How cute. 8D]

Actually, your expertise could come in handy one day. Do you have access to any tools for conducting forensic research here?

Yes and I have adapted to the modern techniques as well. I understand that the requirement for such work is necessary to understand the nature of the crime at a microscopic level. In the meantime between crimes, I have studied on the the most advanced forensics scientist's methods. Doctor Genevoline and Doctor Brennen were the most brilliant in their chosen profession.

Modern techniques, you say. Out of curiosity, what year is it where you are from?

[This person sounds professional and could potentially be useful. But Near needs a gauge.]

Also, since I am interested in your work, would you mind showing me a picture or two of your lab or study area or some documentation you have read or perhaps even written yourself?

I have a completed ledger that I refuse to rip pages from. However I am willing to have you read it in person some time. I am accustomed to secrets. This Manor and some of those that reside here have exhibited some rather clandestine behaviors.

[Profession, he definitely is and it shows even in person as well as his daily activities. He seems almost unapproachable and definitely distant.]

I am from the year seventeen hundred and ninety nine. To answer your previous question, I was not ill by the Manor's doing but rather from an event that I suffered from just shortly upon my arrival. Henceforth my time has not been the same for me sense and I vowed never to let my guard down.

[And that was proven after Mello defeated him in the Loveless Battles. He's kept to himself ever since.]

I understand. It is typical since we do not know where we are or anyone here. [Half lie. Near does know a few people here, one of them being Mello himself, but it is not necessary for this man to know that.]

If you were really able to catch up to modern forensics, assuming it is now circa-2011, from the turn of the 19th century in less than a year since you've been at the manor, then I would be very impressed. What is your name?

The basics are relatively the same in comparison. The main trouble I had was mostly understanding the use of the modern equipment and a lot of trial and error though experimentation.

I am Constable Ichabod Crane.

Nice to meet you Mister Crane. My name is Near.

Can you use the video function to show me your lab and equipment? I want to have an overview look first before I decide whether or not to meet you.

[Although he most likely will not meet with him anyway, at least not until a circumstance calls for it.]

Understandable.

[His video feed comes on and shows a very advanced medical lab complete with three Namekian arms in cafilterfish jars. An old leather ledger that didn't seem to fit the surroundings filled with handwritten notes and a ink and quill pen set was seen just above the ledger.]

[Audio] - why does he have Namekian limbs in jars? xD whitestlie April 13 2011, 00:12:54 UTC
Thank you. That should suffice.

Where did you acquire all that equipment Mr. Crane?

[Audio] Dende gave them to him for experimentation. XD passes_out April 14 2011, 00:59:01 UTC
Some had preexisted here before I came to use of this particular laboratory. The small instruments off to the side on the white canvas sheet are of my own design. There is a stark contrast to their design. This should be much easier to determine which instruments are mind and which belong to this dreadful place.

[It was the only subjective response that he'll give for now about the Manor.]

[Audio] That ... raises more questions than it answers. lol! whitestlie April 15 2011, 09:25:12 UTC
[So the Author had personally supplied this man with a personal research chamber along with some equipment. On the other end of the line, Near pouts. Clearly, this Author plays favorites.]

Do you know if there are any other laboratories back at the manor for public use?

[No, Near has not left his room at all since he arrived a week ago except to use the bathroom, and he only does that when everyone else in his hall's asleep.]

[Audio] Near needs to get out more. XD passes_out April 15 2011, 17:49:40 UTC
There are two in the basement. One is for medical purposes whilst the other is the morgue. The morgue is my preferred space and I have done more than my share of work.

[He just spends a lot of time alone and the pre-existing stuff came from another book and another character that was here before but at the time, he wasn't as involved with forensics as he is now considering that he's one of the last in the art.]

There are bodies at the morgue?

[Audio] passes_out April 16 2011, 17:20:08 UTC
No longer. You see during times where deaths are part of a plot, then yes, there are bodies. If there were none, this place should not exist.

[Audio] whitestlie April 17 2011, 02:58:45 UTC
I thought so. I was informed previously that deaths were only temporary at the manor, so it would be unreasonable for a morgue to be here.

However ... how often do these "plots of death" occur?

[Near has no means of defending himself. Concerned Near is rightfully concerned.]
