001 - Near - ["Accidental" Video/Audio] - Oh, how he loathes the supernatural right now.

[Near turns from side to side, observing the change of scenery after blacking out at the Yellow Box at possibly the most inconvenient time. He places a hand on his throat, which feels slightly itchy and sore, as if he's starting to develop some sort of illness. Could it be? Near's eyes narrowed.

No.

There was no way Kira could have won. This could not possibly be his doing. If he had indeed somehow outsmarted Near at the last second, literally the last second, then why would he leave him in such an ordinary room along with all of his toy finger puppets and the mask of L? Furthermore, why would he leave him with - Near presses a hand against his abdomen and sure enough, the killer notebook is still there. No, this is not Kira's work.

Perhaps some supernatural intervention then? Near lifts a hand to his hair and begins tugging on a strand. If Shinigami exists then anything's possible at this point. What a pain. Who ever was responsible couldn't at least have given him 10 more seconds? No, even 5 more seconds would have been sufficient.

With his free hand, Near begins flicking aside any standing finger puppets one by one until his index rests on the blackberry. I see. Near picks up the phone and examines it, making sure that there's nothing out of the ordinary about the device. So they had intended for him to find it and use it, and while it displeases Near to play into his enemy's hands, there is little else he can actually do at this point, and trying to escape would not be wise especially since he has no means of defense.

The blackberry turns on, filming just a corner of a wall. It shakes a bit before turning back off. Seconds later, the audio comes on, then turns off, then comes on again, then turns back off. It's as if who ever was using the phone was confused by the device and didn't know what they were doing.

That should suffice. There were three kinds of people likely to respond to such a "message," those who would like to help a confused newcomer, those who would like to insult them for their incompetence, and finally, perhaps the mastermind himself. Near would wait.]
