Perhaps some supernatural intervention then? Near lifts a hand to his hair and begins tugging on a strand. If Shinigami exists then anything's possible at this point. What a pain. So they had intended for him to find it and use it, and while it displeases Near to play into his enemy's hands, there is little else he can actually do at this point, and trying to escape would not be wise especially since he has no means of defense.
