hello? can anyone read this?
[ A short pause, then the message continues: ]
i don't know what's going on. i'm scared. are you here, light? it looks like i'm in your room but -- you don't have a stuffed animal like this, do you? (i wouldn't let you live it down if you did

[No, that was extremely irritating to know. However, the fact that this person, a child most likely, admitted so easily that Light was related to her made Naomi feel slightly more at ease.
Yagami had gotten to Amane first when she had first entered the manor before Misora too. Amane had also started out by announcing Yagami's name. Yet after Naomi had tried to get information from her, the girl refused to say anything regarding who Light was and her relation to him, as if she was trying to cover it up, meaning that Yagami must have told her to keep silent whenever they had made contact. However, now, even after Yagami made contact with the newcomer, he obviously did not try to keep her quiet about her relation with him.
Could that mean that unlike Amane, this person had no relations with Kira at all? A comforting thought indeed.]
All of us residents have been kidnapped at some point and brought here by what seems like supernatural means. I say supernatural because, as you will find out sooner, every week or so something abnormal happens, but it's usually not dangerous. [Usually.] The residents themselves are generally friendly enough though. I'm sure your brother can explain more for you.
[If the kid has no connections with Kira, then it would be unnecessary for Naomi to keep her identity a secret. What could Yagami ever do about it?]
My name is Naomi, and you?

i'm sayu yagami. thank you for [ the smallest of pauses ] talking with me, miss naomi. have you met my brother, too? it looks like a lot of people know him. [ Sayu laughs a little here; not that Naomi can tell! ] i guess that makes sense since he's on the welcoming committee and everything....
[ Pause. ]
a boy named hayato told me there were some... um, sick freaks living here, though.

It's true, but some of us do keep an eye on the unruly ones just in case. I'm in law enforcement myself, so do feel free to let me know if anything suspicious occurs. Since we're all stuck in the same situation however, it's safe to say most problems with the residents tend to be kept to a minimum. [She leaves out the fact that this usually only happens when far more dangerous events spawned by the Author overrides residential grudges.
Naomi gives her first question some thought. It's probably best to avoid any and all contact with Yagami.]
I might have see him around the network, but I don't believe I actually know him. Was he popular back home too?
[Interrogation tiemz!]

yeah! light had a lot of friends even though he was always so busy. he even met a model and fell in love with her! he's so lucky. oh, if i could meet ryuga hideki.... i'd sweep him off his feet, too! someday. when i'm older.
[ .... Did she really just type all of that? ]
uh, anyway! do you want me to introduce you to him? he's interested in law enforcement, too.

Really? I didn't know it was a popular field. Why would he interested in law enforcement?

There's not exactly a greatly structured legal system at the manor and few of us are in law enforcement, so we could always use more help. But unfortunately if he's never had any experience in the field, it doesn't count.

I'm sorry. It must be awkward to be typing like this. Would this be better?
[Have the warmest of smiles.]

Oh, yes, thank you! [ Have a big grin, Naomi, now that Sayu's realized she's just been talking to a nice older woman. Phew. Close call. ] Light actually helped dad out on a lot of cases, even when he was my age. I'm sure he'd love to pitch in! Who else is on the police force? The [ beat ] welcome packet Conan sent me was kind of old.

Yes, it's a little outdated. Of the officers, there is only Tom Hanson that I know of. We usually work as partners, and he's very good at his job. Crane is also around, but I don't know him too well. Of the detectives, Saguru is definitely one of the most reliable ones I've come across.
[She hesitates for a while considering whether or not to mention Mello or Sands, neither of whom she trusts completely.] As for the others, I don't know much about them so I can't say. We're not very organized, regrettably.
What about you, Sayu? Are you interested in the field as well?
Reply
No, it's not really my thing. I tend to tune out ten minutes after Light and dad start talking about their cases. [ Punctuated by a laugh --
-- and then a slight, sudden feeling of discomfort. Remember, Sayu? This conversation's private. But what's there to hide? ]
Um. [ She forces a little smile. ] Yeah.

Well, you're still young. You should probably focus more on school first anyway. I'm terribly sorry that you had to get dragged into somewhere like this at such a promising point in your life.
[And this time, she actually means it. As much as Naomi wanted Yagami and the rest of his family and allies to suffer in the deepest part of her subconscious, she can't help but sympathize with the innocent, especially if they're a child, a weakness she's well aware of.]

And then Sayu realizes her quiet might have dragged on a little too long. ]
Oh! It's... it's not okay, but we're all dealing with it. Everyone's lost something coming here. I never really liked studying anyway. [ Another laugh followed by a more genuine smile. ]
Thanks a lot, Miss Naomi.

Or even before coming here ...
[It was spoken rather absent-mindedly, and Naomi silently cursed herself for still not being able to let go of the past.]
