[11th Calculation] A little R&R [In person]

Feb 06, 2011 16:30

[Gene sat in the music room for a good ten minutes thinking about the responsibilities that lie ahead and how much work that still needed to be done. A thick folder sat next to him that contained a possible curriculum, syllabus of each proposed class and a list of possible students which pretty much meant the entire population of The Manor. [ Misa found herself watching and listening before she knew it. ]

That was pretty...

[He quickly looks up at the sound of Misa's voice and nods.]

Thanks. I'm just glad that the craziness is over...for now anyway. I'm Gene.

Nice to meet you Misa.

[He strums the guitar in a melodic way as he carries on the conversation.]

How are doing this week? It's pretty easy, huh.

Mnmm... it is. No weird things are happening.

And I had to ask for your nam---

[ Opps. She doesn't have the Shinigami eyes, but she isn't supposed to talk about that still. ]

---Name of the song! It is so pretty!

Can you teach me?

It's called Spiritual Groove.

[He missed the slip up so she's safe.]

Yeah, it's pretty easy. Here.

[He holds out his guitar for her to practice.]

Don't worry, it's a lot stronger than it looks.

[ Excited for her first guitar lesson, she skips towards him and picks up the very big guitar, Big for her anyway because she was less than five feet tall. ]

Did you make it yourself?

[ Experimenting by plucking the strings. ]

A friend of mine made it for me and it's pretty sturdy than the ones purchased at the stores. It's custom so the frets aren't as wide as the ones made in a factory.

[He's nearly reminded of his daughter by seeing Misa hold the guitar that seems much bigger than her small stature.]

Here, it's easier of you use your knee as a prop. My daughter had the same issue. It'll make it easier for the stretch in a more relaxed way.

Wow! That is so cool!

[ Funnily, she is already 19 years old. But, she pouts like a kid and pulls another seat and sat down, propping the guitar on her knee as instructed. ]

[He sheepishly chuckles and a bit shyly as he recalled his mistake.]

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you're a little kid. My daughter's six and you're obviously not that little.

[Oh boy, Gene's digging a hole and quickly recants.]

Wait...that's not right either. You know, [clears his throat] why don't we start with the lesson, huh?

[ Seeing that he was really sorry, she forgave him and smiled back. ]

That is alright... Misa is tiny, so it can't be helped that you think she is young.

[Concentrates on guitar. ]

Where does Misa start?

Oh.

[He positions her fingers gently to start with a simple G chord.]

This is the G chord. It's one of the easiest to do and the most common. Just two fingers. The first string is the E string which is the one on the bottom. Then comes the B, then G then D, followed by A and E. So it's easier to remember that E is top and bottom. I was taught the acronym for the others as Big Goats Dance Alone.

The G chord is pretty universal but to make the melody, sometimes sliding up the neck, keeping those fingers in place, it's easy to experiment with that chord alone. It's okay to strum all the strings. You'll see what I mean. It all works together.

[She doesn't like to admit it, but she is struggling. Her nails are pretty long and her hands are small. But you can see in her stubborn face that she is trying. Smiles when she gets something right and frowns when she makes a mistake. But at the same time she is still afraid to break a nail. Before she knew it, she mumbled... ]

Musicians are amazing...

They must break their nails a lot...

[Gene looks at his hands and notices the splits in his fingernails.]

I guess so. I never really noticed it. Some of us just cut them really short anyway.

[ Smiles like a kid and shows off her perfectly manicured nails. ]

Misa used to be a model... so Misa is used to doing her nails.

But even if Misa isn't a model anymore now... Misa still likes looking at her pretty nails.

[ She isn't saying anything, but she does misses modeling a bit. ]

A model?

[Some ideas come to his head about public relations and having a model did help some.]

You know, I was thinking of starting up a calendar soon. I we could figure out the year, maybe we can put one together...if that makes any sense.
