[11th Calculation] A little R&R [In person]

Feb 06, 2011 16:30

[Gene sat in the music room for a good ten minutes thinking about the responsibilities that lie ahead and how much work that still needed to be done. A thick folder sat next to him that contained a possible curriculum, syllabus of each proposed class and a list of possible students which pretty much meant the entire population of The Manor. [Naomi disliked the third floor immensely, but what seemed like a continuum of muffled noises caught her attention. After giving a moment of consideration, she followed her ear up to the floor above as the melodic tune of the guitar disclosed itself.

The piece, it was nice, oddly refreshing. Now, positioned by the door, Misora listens. She listens till the very end, lost in thought, not even realizing when the piece had finally come to a close.]

[Draping his arms over the guitar leisurely, he notices the new listener. It was definitely rare that he had the chance to relax so openly.]

Hi there.

[He changes from the finger pics to the standard flat pick.]

Oh, sorry. I hope I'm not interrupting. Mmm, do you always play up here?

Only when I know it's quiet and nothing's going on. Otherwise I just stay in my room and keep to myself. I know it's not entirely healthy to do that but at least I know I won't be swept up in some weird plot again...which happens anyway.

[He holds his hand out with a warm smile.]

I'm Gene. If things go well, I might be helping out with a school. It's still up in the air.

[There was split second of cautious evaluation first before Misora accepts his handshake. Trustworthy people were hard to come by nowadays. Then she offers a polite smile.]

What kind of school? Back in your world or here at this manor?

[He scratches the back of his head with his head lowered slightly.]

Here in the Manor. The Doctor and I are looking to inform people here in the Manor about the different cultural boundaries. We hope to bring about some changes through information and cultural exchange outside of the Author's influence. If we can manage to do that, then we've got a chance. Politics can come later.

Really? That sounds like a rather noble idea. [She, on the other hand, is much less optimistic about the whole thing, but she tries not to show it.]

I didn't know you and the Doctor were friends. [Oh, what a dumb thing to say. She didn't even know Gene until today. Speaking of which, oops!]

Ah, I'm sorry. I had forgotten to introduce myself. My name is Naomi. [Good going, Misora.]

We're not really friends. Just working partners. It's a pleasure to meet you, Naomi. I hope it works out. To be honest, it could fall apart. With so many coming and going, it's hard to say what works and what doesn't. I've been here long enough to at least get a grasp of things. I don't know everything.

[He strums his guitar lazily but the tune isn't off and still melodic.]

Maybe if you get more people in on it, there's a higher chance of succeeding.

A veteran then? May I ask how long you've been here?

God, I hadn't really counted the days but I guess judging by the events that transpired here, August...or what I would have thought of as August. I've seen a lot of people come and go and some I wish would just leave.

[He gave a soft chuckle at that thought.]

It's pretty freaky around here at times. It's better to take it at stride and not give in to the Author's drama. We should do as we please without her trying to break us.

Ugh, I agree with you there. I've met a few decent people but plenty of others who do nothing but put me in a bad mood.

You seem to be taking a much better than I have though. [She gives a smile.] Maybe music helps.

Actually it does.

[He gives a small but shy smile.]

Um...well, I guess it's a matter of what you're willing to take on. Some people like being out in the open. I don't. I'm not really a spotlight kind of person.

Me neither.

Maybe I should pick up an instrument as well.

I can teach you, if you'd like.

[Now this, Gene didn't mind. This kind of attention was definitely positive.]

Ha, I dabbled in a little bit of music [and a little bit of everything. Naomi always had trouble making up her mind about what she'd like to do. Usually she just picked things up on a whim.] back in the days, but I'm pretty sure I don't remember anything anymore. Never taken up the guitar either.

Sure, why not. I'd love to learn.

That's great!

[Gene stands up and hands the guitar to Misora.]

Have a seat and I'll walk you through the steps.

OOC: We don't have to go through the whole thing since it can take time and can get a little boring.]
