[Iron has a distinct smell, and it's one that makes Light wrinkle his nose in distaste. But this is wrong. This is neither the smell of a harmless oxidation reaction, nor are they anywhere near scrap metal junk yard. The air is saturated with heavy metal, and instantly Light knows that something is very amiss. Having excluded the harmless explanations, there's only one left to him now, and he drops his gaze to the floor. Blood. Blood everywhere. Light follows the spatter, reminiscent of a gruesome Hansel and Gretel breadcrumb trail, as he finds splotch after splotch and beyond that, what looks like flesh colored worms, too still to be alive and....his eyes widen, becoming almost comically round, as the cognitive dissonance sets in when he sees the bloodied nail beds.

Light's shoes pound against the floor, his heart pumps his own blood so forcefully he can feel his pulse in his temples, as he races closer to the source. His stomach lurches, threatening angrily to evacuate the partially digested remnants of this morning's breakfast. Clearly whoever did this was proud of their "art." A demented freak. One that makes Light's right hand, his writing hand, itch. It doesn't take a genius to know that Shiki is beyond help at this point; it defies physiological reason that he's still breathing at all. He bends down by Shiki's head, careful to preserve the scene of the crime.]

...Who did this to you?

[There's a sudden exhale, forced and harsh. Another one? He growls, treading that borderline of alive or dead precariously. His eyes shot open, fixated on the squeamish boy in front of him.]

--Leave me be--

[It was beyond sounding human at this point. A feral hiss that almost had two tones from the wet echo. He shook, not out of cold, but the adrenaline still desperately trying to pound it's way through his body. His teeth were gritted and bared, blood seeping through them from where he'd coughed up so much from his lungs. A nightmarish image.]
