Gohan didn't have to try hard to sense Dende's ki sense he was already pretty familiar with it. But when he actually reached his friend it wasn't what he expected. This looked like some other Namek.

"D-dende...what..." that was about as coherent as Gohan was going to get. He'd just seen Zarbon alive. Now this.

[Dende looks up a bit curiously at first, but smiles once he sees who it is. It had been a while since he's seen Gohan quite that small. He chuckles and rolls on his back letting out a hiss in pain, but quickly plasters that kind smile back on his face]

Gohan... It's been a long time since I've seen you so small... have you been fairing well here so far?

"What happened to you?" he blurted. "I mean...besides the obvious. You're a teenager!"

The hiss of pain was not unnoticed and he immediately rushed over to his friends side. "Are you able to sit up?"

[Dende laughs]

Yes, the Author must've thought I would fair better 30 years older so... here I am.

[Dende shifts a little]

Ah... I think my spine is broken... or at least disloacted. Nothing a little regeneration can't fix. Don't you worry about a thing alright?

[He reaches up and gives Gohans head a good pat. He was going to try and conserve his energy a bit more but he would regenerate earlier then planned if Gohan was absolutely distraught about it.]

"That's good." he sounded relieved, though he was no less happy that his friends was in pain. "Maybe I should stay until you do. I mean, you don't want to be left alone and helpless if Zarbon comes back. If I had known earlier that he had done this...."

Now he was unbelievably disgusted that he had not put the jerk in his place.

[Dende smiles triumphantly]

I don't think he'll be coming back. He doesn't have a scouter, he wouldn't know where to look. Don't worry about it Gohan. It's my own fault. I confronted him.

[Dende takes a few deep breaths, regenerating something of the magnitude that he was, was definitly going to hurt]

Alright, now give me just a moment... this wont be pretty... sorry Gohan...

[Dende starts to writhe and his arms instinctively clutch his stomach. Not because it hurt, but simply to hold on to something. It a moment his body begins to make some sickening poping and snapping noises, he bites his lip and then there's an abrupt snap as his back is forced into place. Shortly following is another snap as his chest reforms itself.

finally he lets out a sigh, and his arms fall to his sides. He's panting heavily, but stil smiling]

There see? all better.
