[This is not Thairos. For one thing, it's raining. She practically had to fight to get the normal storms to come to Thairos. For another, she woke up in what seems to be an inn that is far more opulent than even her famous teacher would stay at. Also, the lighting here is exceedingly odd.]

[There's very little chance she could have gotten ( Read more... )

[And wandering the streets, having been vaguely smart enough to find a white umbrella, is one teenage "boy" who's finally taking the time from being spazzy to ...]

[Well, if he can't do anything constructive, then there's no use freaking out, is there? So he's been shopping, and is munching on a pastry with a couple large bags, some of which is "things he's stashing and hoping he can take back for Mina".]

[Soma, you're doing bad things to her vision the minute you come anywhere near her field of vision. She can't really help that startled yell in "useful" Tradertalk, which will go untranslated for the sake of the illusion that Tris Does Not Swear. She is going to yank off her glasses and put them somewhere safe and put her hands over her eyes.]

My head...

[Soma looks up over his pastry, blinking in confusion and Utter Innocence.]

Mnrfhrbh? [it takes him a second to juggle the pastry out of his mouth.] You OK?

[Tris can't see you.] I've seen better days. [She sounds very very grouchy, and her hair is sparking a little.]

Uhh. Do you need any help? Is something wrong? [Well, you aren't doing any snarling or being overly hostile yet, so!]

You can help by standing where I can't see you. There's something odd about you and it's hurting my eyes. [Politeness under stress: this is not one of her strong suits. She's grabbing for her glasses, though.]

[Oh. There's more like the usual. Mostly. Enough to get a grumpy-Soma.]

Right. Sorry for existing, I can't really turn it off. At least there's no pitchforks and torches this time. [Which were usually metaphorical, at least, not counting the less friendly parts of town.]

...Wait, you can see that?

Sorry for not being able to help what I see. [That's... a very fat spark crawling around her hair. DEEP breath.] Could you please move so I can open my eyes without feeling like I've stuck red-hot knives through them? [She says 'could you please' like it makes her teeth hurt.]

[There is a VERY grumpy sigh, and he finds a place behind a bus-stop's sign-covered wall to stand.]

There, does that work?

[Opening her eyes cautiously.] Yes, thank you. [Bah, being nearsighted. She's going to adjust the spell that dampens her magical sight on her glasses till the 'volume' is basically one notch off of mute, then put them back on.] There. That should fix it.

[Soma sighed, less grumpily.] Does this mean I can come out now?

Yes, it does. What kind of magic do you have? [She sounds sort of exasperated, but more curious than anything.] I've never seen the like, and I've lived with a mage who specializes in vision magic. [Niko is going to grill her for details when she runs into him next, she just knows it.]

[He walks out, cautiously, but there's a half-step almost missed at the questions.]

Uh. It's very complicated. [Oh god how the Hell is he supposed to explain this.] I'm not sure I really understand it myself. ["Hi! I'm the one that was supposed to be the next Lord of Darkness, except I've kinda beeng kicking and screaming and digging my nails into the door on the whole 'it is your destiny to rule over mankind in terror and bloodshed' thing. By the way, I eat souls!" ...yeah. That'd be a great idea.]

[Oh dear.] So you have a 'very complicate' type of magic you're not sure you understand yourself? [She's giving you this EPIC Look that just reeks of "you are a complete and utter moron, you DO know that, right?"]

At least you know you have it. Please tell me you have a teacher.

[At least his ego can get the better of him somewhat.] It'd been suppressed down to nothing until a year ago so I didn't even know I HAD it, it's SUPPOSED to be massively destructive and there's basically ONE other person with kind of vaguely similar powers who ISN'T out to get bloody dominion over all mankind, and he's been trying but he's kinda busy trying to keep everyone else from causing massacres and chaos.

Nevermind that for a good part of that year it went back dormant enough that I thought I didn't even HAVE it anymore.

[You just managed to stun her into silence for a good bit as she tries to process this.] ...That's... not how magic normally works... [She's saying this almost like she's trying to figure you out.]

So you do have it under some form of control, right? [Even though it really-doesn't-look-like-it to her.]
