Mello and I have reason to believe the Alethiometer will only provide accurate readings to a certain person or people. It does not appear to be either of us. Will you please give it a try?

[No matter how much he wants to. The last thing they need is for it to break. When it comes to machines Mello usually lets Matt handle all the hard work. Because what is frustrating and impossible for Mello seems to come naturally to Matt.]

[Matt's eyes don't miss much. He made mention of the gold, but he's actually far more curious about the symbols on the thing. He nods and holds his hand out, though there's some slight hesitation when Mello mentions not taking it apart.

[L picks the Alethiometer up, in between thumb and forefinger on the top dial, holding it that way despite its weight, and hands it to Matt. He watches closely for what Matt will do with it.]

[Yeah, Mello knows Matt wants to take it apart, that's why he clarified. Matt's been gutting electronics since Mello met him and while he trusts Matt with everything from the tiniest clockwork to the engines of their vehicles THIS is an entirely different animal all together.]

[Unless she is just messing with them, as Mello said. But L likes believing in order over chaos. Logic will be able to help them through this.]
