"Rem."

Anyone seeing Vash right now would think he was just talking to a sunlit window at first glance. However, if they looked closer they would see a the faint outline of a young woman with long, flowing black hair cascading done her back like dark liquid. Her clothes are plain. Just a white shirt and a pair of blue jeans. But her chocolate covered eyes sparkle with vitality and warmth and life. She didn't say anything, but she nodded and smiled.

Vash didn't know he was crying until the tears finally welled over and ran down his feet. He reached out of touch her, but it was as it she were made of nothing more substantial than air and light.

"I wanted so bad to see you, Rem!" he nearly sobbed. "I've caused so much trouble, done terrible things...."

The figure tilted her head and looked sympathetic but a smile still played across her lips that suggested he was once again taking things too seriously.

"You don't understand." he wiped his eyes. "Wolfwood is dead, Rem. He died because I got him involved. I should have figured out who he was sooner. Protected him better. Brad's death too, that was my fault! July, Augusta.....I haven't been able to take care of Knives. I don't even know how to stop him."

They are both silent and perhaps she is saying something only he hears in his mind. The gunfighter bows his head.

"I killed somebody Rem." he looks too ashamed to meet her eyes. "I did. I shot him. I couldn't find the solution that saved everybody."

Some of the suffering in Vash's face is mirrored in her own. Pain over his pain. But she does not look as though she is blaming him. She looks as though she is saying something very gently. Vash just puts his face in his hands.
