Morning. [He's setting down some of the tackle, which also gives him a good view of the lake ... and making sure nobody is around; even with that, he's keeping quiet.]
Apologies for the abrupt message; I've been trying to make sense of what I'm dealing with, and got a clue pointing that you might know something.

[He's calmly tying a hook on the line and baiting it, and checking over the rod.] In some ways, quite a bit, in some ways, frustratingly little. I'm going on what I've seen of his behavior, what he's said and left out, how he's acted and reacted - he set off a few alarms of mine when he first arrived as too familiar a type, nevermind seeing at least one veiled threat. Since then, he's been trying to feel out information, and been put off or curious about all the wrong things - asking questions about the detectives here, starting to avoid me after finding out my mother's background, little things. [He casts, and glances over.] I'd take this less seriously, but the cases I normally work aren't pretty, and many of them were very subtle; I don't like taking chances when something tugs those threads.

[He settles in thoughtfully, just letting the bobber drift.] He's arrogant - and I haven't seen a sign of honest respect for another person yet from him, just plenty of covers. If anything, there's been more disdain for others. He doesn't like people, but he's good at faking it when it suits his purposes; considering some of what he said when he arrived, before he settled into trying to maneuver, he was too cavalier about approaching complete unknowns - like he was utterly sure that he had the upper hand, but didn't want to come out and say it
( ... )

I've been at this my entire life, with lives on the line - can't afford to screw up.
[After a pause-] Oh, the reason I asked for you was that when he was fishing for information at Nakamori-san, he reacted to your name. I take it I wasn't off the mark in thinking I should keep an eye on him?

[It's a perfectly innocent pretense.]

What do you know and what have you heard?

Tell me anything you know for sure.
[His eye flit momentarily to the other detective]
And tell me why people don't trust your mother.

[So has he]
Absolutely.
[He's not going to tell Hakuba too much yet. He's a little unsure of the other detective and he's not willing to tell him everything.]
Keep both eyes on him and don't let him too far out of your sight.

Is this the kind of need to know where I might be in danger, or where I might put someone else in danger?
