The actual act of moving is complete. It was nowhere near as smooth as I'd hoped; in fact, Friday - actual moving day - probably couldn't have been more of a complete and utter disaster if it tried. I got up nice and early, finished the last minute packing and settled down to wait for the removal guys. Only... they didn't show up. So I ring them, and the phone rings and rings and rings and rings, no reply, no voicemail, nothing. I wait a few minutes and try again, but the same happens.
Panic ensues. For a brief interlude before I pick up the phonebook and start ringing. I explain that I was needing to move that day, had been let down by another company and was hoping they could get me out of a pickle. First one I ring says "we'll be there in 3 hours". Big sigh of relief.
They turn up 4 hours later and... the relief is quickly replaced by dread. Apparnetly, I found the slowest removal company EVER. It took them 2 hours to load my stuff onto their van and then they got lost getting to my flat. I direct them here, and they then take another 3.5 hours to unload my stuff, complaining about the stairs the whole time. I'm like, hi I said when I rang it was a second floor flat. By the time they'd finally gone, it was late, I was tired and in pain and frustrated and stressed... so I ended up going back to mum's and sleeping in her spare room.
Saturday morning we were up nice and early, took a couple more things to my flat, turned my fridge freezer on, then went to ASDA to buy All The Food to fill my cupboards. Mum even treated me to a nice breakfast. Yay.
Once we got back to mine, we tackled the bedroom - moved the furniture to where I thought I wanted it, swept and vacuumed, got the rug down, put up curtain rails, hung curtains, put all the clothes away, built new furniture... then spent a good half hour trying to work out where chair/bookshelf/mirror went... they all seemed to 'belong' in the same places and only one fit at a time. The living room was measured for carpet and a carpet was purchased which will be fitted on Thursday. Last thing I did was move all the boxes/bags into the relevant rooms.
Today has been another busy one. Second coat of paint onto one of the walls in the living room - it might yet need another one, we'll see how it looks in the morning. The curtain rail and curtains were hung in the living room, the funiture moved into place. Ive not been able to make a start on unpacking CDs/DVDs/books yet because there's no point when I'm just gonna have to ove it all again for the carpet to be laid. I made my kitchen table and chairs, organised the kitchen and cooked my first meal.
I'm now just chilling out while psyching myself up to go clean the bathroom... It's all so very exciting, don't you know?!
