I have had a lovely couple of days - there has been clothes and nail polish and jewellery and geekery. And a library. And donuts. And cooking. And now there are horror movies and hot chicks kicking zombie ass. I am approving of this way of spending my time.
Wednesday I was down in London for work. I went through the process of getting payments approved and met my division director. Very imposing when you first meet him - huge tall black man - but pretty cool. R, who's the division admin that I spend a lot of time working with, loves the fact I wear bright colours and can 'get away with it'. And AF did actually have a nice cold bottle of Pepsi waiting for me.
Met up with
spazzer_mctwich at Euston after work and god it was SO GOOD to see her! We talked forever then walked down to GBK because I had a "2 for £10" offer. OM NOM NOM NOM NOM. The train home was a nightmare... I'm starting to think London just doesn't want me to leave! I always book in the quiet coach and there was some woman with two fucking screaming toddlers. In the QUIET coach. Luckily after lots of tuts and glares and the like she moved from the coach but seriously?! *headdesk* And the train was running late. Only by like 15 minutes, but enough for me to miss my connection, meaning I was stuck at New Street for 45 minutes. Ugh.
Got two books read that day though - Haunted and Broken by Kelley Armstrong. Books 5 and 6 of the Women Of The Otherworld series. Broken made me VERY happy by focusing on the werewolves. As much as I love Paige and Lucas and Savannah and all, Elena & Clay & Jeremy = LOVE LOVE LOVE :D
I've got a copy of No Humans Involved winging it's way to me. And right now I just stated The Corpse-Rat King by Lee Battersby. About 50 pages in and its... weird!
Thursday and Friday I was off work due a combination of Eid and a nasty fever, puking, thumping headache, joints that don't like me and a nice anxiety attack. Fun times!
It seems the HMRC decided to royally fuck up my taxes and took over half my salary. Thankfully my landlord was ok with me not being able to pay rent. Thanks, mum! I managed to get it sorted, get my code reverted back to standard single persons and sent some copy paperwork in.
Mum, bless her, then gave me £10 to 'buy myself something nice'. I had to take a bracelet back to Claire's so I headed up town. And into Primark. I was feeling very... green. I bought a green v-neck top, a green polo-top and a green t-shirt proudly proclaiming 'dork'. I also bought an awesome bracelet that's all colourful beads and parrots. I also got a 9 pack of earrings in Claire's. Pictures of most of the above are over on
my instagram. There was also a trip to Krispy Kreme donuts... om nom nom nom NOM!
Yesterday afternoon involved a trip to the library. Basically I've been getting tired of the utter pantsness of Stirchley and Telford libraries and decided to go look at one of the other libraries dotted around town. Now, Telford centre is undergoing some big regeneration project so that library is literally just one room. Stirchley library is barely 1/4 of the size it used to be. Wellington has just finished its regeneration - new civic centre/leisure centre and library been built... I wasn't sure what to expect but seriously.. omg... i needed to sit down. We walked in, looked around and my face just lit up. "BOOKS". Two freaking floors. Fiction and manga and sci-fi and fantasy and horror and crime. And then a second floor for non-fiction... And all these big comfy chairs you can just curl up in and lose yourself in a book. IT WAS AMAZING AND I AM IN LOVE!
*ahem*
This morning's trip to ASDA continued with the green shopping theme. I ended up with two green nail polishes from George. One called Under The Sea and a glittery one called Aquamarine. I got home to discover a magazine had been delivered. When I renewed my subscription to Good Food a couple of weeks ago, they asked me if I was interested in a promotion that was on for History - 5 issues for £5. I said sure and then this morning my first issue arrived. Talk about the perfect first issue for me... there's articles on the Battle of Flodden and Vampires! Plus Waterloo, medieval letter writing and Robespierre. Plus I've read about Danish archaeologists investigating the culture behind Beowulf, about X-Rays helping historians with fragile papers, a team who're planning an expedition to follow the footsteps of John Wesley Powell's pioneering Grand Canyon journey and a bit about the 200 years of political unrest in Egypt.
The afternoon was spent completing the crossword, and getting lost in Wikipedia articles.
I am geeking like crazy AND I LOVE IT! *flails and twirls*
