I'm always really surprised by the things I consider to be basic/common/general knowledge that other people don't know. Maybe it comes from a childhood of being brought up on game shows, playing Trivial Pursuit. Even now I still love The Weakest Link, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, etc... my current love is Pointless - I've just bought mum the Pointless board game for Christmas, we've bought ourselves the boardgame Tension to play over Christmas and I've got myself TV Show King for Christmas.
*thinks* I wandered off topic there, what was I saying?
Ah, yes, general knowledge.
On Pointless Celebrity today there was a round that was basically "who wrote this book/play" - I knew 10/12 - yet people did NOT know who wrote Wuthering Heights or The Three Musketeers.
I'd honestly have thought everyone knew that. *shrugs* Mum even turned round and asked what the fuck kids were learning in school these days.
Mum and I do the quizzes in the paper at the weekend and hell I surprise both of us with the random things I know - things I didn't know I knew and mum'll ask me how I know. Or she'll know one I didn't think she'd know, and I'll ask her.
The answer is always the same from both of us: must have read it/seen it on a quiz show.
Like I said - maybe its just that I have a broad general knowledge, that I seem to collect random bits of useless trivia.
But all I could think watching Pointless Celeb was "and this is how you make yourself look thick on national television"
tv,
books,
games,
family
