There is nothing worse, when you're looking for a job so you can move, than having to turn down a job offer. Except of course, having to turn down TWO job offers.
The first one was a sales admin role for a car dealership, advert said salary negotiable but it wasn't; they offered £12.5k - it was all I could do not to laugh in her face. I'm sorry I was on more than that when I was 19, I'm not taking that at 31. And let's face it, who in their right mind is going to take a 3.5k paycut?
The second one was a credit control job but they wanted me to start on Monday - clearly they missed the bit where I've got a month's notice and live over 120 miles away *facepalm*
I also went and introduced myself to a couple of agencies in Lancaster, one of which made the very exciting claim that they'll find me work at 17k+ within 10 days that will accept my notice period - they deal with a lot of the larger blue-chip companies who run shared service centres, with epically high volume of input… sounds HEAVENLY, no?
I told them I looked forward to hearing from them next week :D
On the bright side, I'm taking from the experience that there is work up there and my hunt will be successful.
I then spent some time wandering around Lancaster itself yesterday afternoon. It's a gorgeous place. All old buildings and narrow streets. To me, it was a strange colour - the building materials being different to what I'm used to down here. I spent a little while in the museum and will definitely have to go back again to explore it properly. They've currently got an exhibition relating to the Mexican Day Of The Dead - including some artwork for sale that made me wish I had £3k spare to purchase - as well as a very detailed history of Lancaster with artifacts and maps and everything. There's also a military section with uniforms and kit and stuff. I can see myself losing a whole Saturday in that place being a happy geek!
This morning, however, my body is telling me in no uncertain terms that it does not appreciate the four return trips to Lancashire in the last three weeks. I'm exhausted and could sleep for a month of Sunday's. It feels like everything is swollen: fingers on my left hand, both wrists, both elbows, both hips, both knees, my right arms feels like it could fall out of its socket.
I am officially becoming a hermit until the Steve gig pre-con2. Or possibly even the ChristianTLOR gig in Manchester post-con2.
