When I went round mum's this morning, there were two police cars parked outside - a fairly unusual occurrence because this is a very nice area. I had to ask one of the uniforms if he'd please move the car because he was blocking me in. Felt very cheeky but he was apologetic for blocking me an quite happily backed up literally a couple foot so I could get out. (They were just standing around chatting amongst themselves so I didn't feel as bad as I could have, y'know? If they'd looked busythen of course, I wouldn't have!)
Just now, the door goes. I answer it and there's a guy wearing a pretty nice suit. My automatic internal reaction goes 'no, i don't want a copy of the Watchtower. Or whatever it is that you're wanting to sell me'
Then he flips out his police ID and is all 'Hi, I'm DC [name] from [local] police station' and explains there'd been a burglary at a house round the corner and were canvassing, asking if we'd seen anything. He also said there'd been an anonymous tip from a three storey house. Now, I live in one of the few three-storeys but none of the lads are in, so there's a note and a business card on the kitchen table for one of them to call the detective if they know anything.
I know it sucks for the poor people round the corner but... I dunno, it was kinda cool, in a way. I've never had cops knocking on the door before or spoken to one that I wasn't working with or asking for help so... I know, I'm weird and it was just like it happens on TV too *grins*
(Now, I'm heading back to fic writing... if you see me around before I've written another 1100 words, poke me hard and send me back, k?!)
