NOT actually an entry about work... mostly

My lil legs hurt. H-U-R-T. Hurt.

They didn’t hurt this much before physio but now… damn! *cries* My right hip, all across my lower back, right down the outside of my right thigh and both my knees are just ACHING

Ben, my physiotherapist, gets bonus points for being a Good Charlotte fan but that’s totally outweighed by the fact he’s an evil sadistic son-of-a-bitch!

He started the session with a tape measure to find out exactly how much the difference in length between my legs was and has come to the decision that actually no, there’s not a physical difference. It’s more to do with the way I tilt my pelvis, which is because the muscles in my right leg are pretty much… well… useless and don’t have a clue what the hell they’re supposed to be doing.

He’s also located a bloody sore spot on my right hip that needs investigating but he wants to work on the muscles first.

Oh, and my bad knee was clicking nicely the whole time.

Basically, one muscle - the wrong one - is doing all the work, and that’s the one that’s all knotted and tense around the knee. The other muscles are pretty much useless and need to be a) strengthened up and b) taught to work property. Ben wants to release the sore muscle because he knows how bloody sore it is and how much pain its causing me but like he said, there’s no point releasing it because it’ll only bunch straight back up again because it’ll still be doing all the work.

I’ve got some exercises to do to start strengthening the muscles.
I have a variation of a straight leg raise but I need to have the knee/thigh supported and relax the knee, with the leg bent, and then raise my leg to straight. Fuck but that’s hard work and left me panting. I managed about 3 with his help.
I have to do a ‘clam’. Lay on my left side, knees brought up to my chest and put a hand on my hip and then lift my right knee. Again, fuck that was hard work and hurt.
I gotta do 3 sets of 7 reps of both exercises twice a day. I foresee a lot of pain in the coming week!

AND, as if that wasn’t enough… I have to sit up straight, back supported, and cross my right ankle over my leg knee, place my left hand on my right knee and gently/slowly pull my knee toward me to the point of tension and hold it for 30 seconds.
Again, I would like to clarify: OW!

Also… apparently swimming = bad. Very bad. Was thoroughly told off for going swimming because it works the muscles that don’t know how to work and puts even more strain on the one that’s doing all the work.

I kinda pouted at him, explained I was trying to lose weight to go on holiday in March. He understood and has said that using the exercise bike and the cross trainer are both very good. Naturally, he doesn’t want me over-doing it, I’m to completely disregard the plan the trainer at the gym gave me and just use the one he’s given - it’s good for fitness, weight loss and most importantly, my joints. Still allowed to do all the upper body work though, which is good. He did give me a proper term for this sort of workout but I can’t actually remember it. But basically its warm up for 5 minutes, do 20 seconds on a hard level of resistance, then 40 seconds on normal, repeat 10 times, 5 minutes warm down and do that on both the cross trainer and the bike.
It’s really bugging me that I can’t remember what it’s called
*lightbulb effect*
Possibly interval training? Burns 4x the amount of fat/calories as normal cardio.

(This post is basically being written between calls at work so as things are coming back to me - such as the name of the type of training - I’m just scrolling back up in the word document and amending it!
Then, when I get close to the end of my shift, I’ll log onto one of the forums I can access from here and send myself a U2U so that I can copy and paste this into an lj entry
Yes, my life really IS just that exciting!)

16:18 aaand the phones have gone down… *twiddles thumbs* Oh, no, we’re going on to answering letters

16:36 aaaand the computer system’s gone down too. Anyone for a game of I-Spy?

16:45 lunchtime. Wonder what the situation will be at 17:15 when I’m back?

17:21 computer system back up. Still no telephones. Carrying on playing hangman with Nicholaanswering written correspondence.

17:30 computer system back down. Still no telephones

19:30 telephones come back up... still no computers

Anyways... that’s enough for random work interruptions, back to the physio!

Ben also managed to almost make me pass out too. He wants to experiment with acupuncturesticking needles in me as a way of releasing the muscles. Again, HE WANTS TO STICK NEEDLES INTO MY BAD KNEE!
I kinda went very very white at the suggestion and he realised that might be a bad idea! I agreed, told him I wasn’t very good with needles and had this habit of passing out just having a flu jab/blood test kinda thing. He laughed. *pouts* and then pointed out I have tattoos.
Naturally, and maturely, I stuck my tongue out at him!

Luckily, he’s pretty convinced he can release it without acupuncture - he did pout though because he really wants to try it because he thinks it’ll work really well. But no, he says he can still do it.
Only, if he can’t release it manually, I’ll have to have another operation on it.

So, which is the lesser of two evils: having an operation or having needles jabbed into me?
Not keen on either option, to be perfectly honest with you!

That’s about it for updates from the Land of the Llama, so now I’m going to frolic gaily in the fields, eat grass, enjoy the sunshine and beat the alpacas in a spitting contestdownload White Collar, NCIS and NCIS LA.

physio, work
