i was sitting high up on top of a piano holding my bass guitar and a piece of sheet music that read "basement jaxx - red alert". my current bass teacher, rich, was there, as were roughly four other students. for some reason nearly all of us had wanted to learn this basement jaxx song, and so we were sitting there trying to read it and play it on our instruments, though i seemed to be the only one holding one. anyway, i knew how the track sounded, so i kept fiddling with the same bass line. it was odd, though: the notes i was playing clearly didn't match the ones on the sheet music. maybe i was playing in the wrong key? i'll start somewhere else. no. that didn't work. no matter where i tried the pattern i knew to be the bass part to red alert, it would not match what was written on the paper.
then rich revealed why: he had actually given us a van halen song called "thumbelina". is there even a van halen song called "thumbelina"? naturally, we were all very confused.
i woke up, took a urine, brushed my teeth, wrote this.
