Basically, in this fic, it comes down to Damon only being able to stand being around Bonnie if they're being destructive together--I thought it would be great fun to continue to explore Bonnie's darkness, and that for Damon, he could only *enjoy* her in this place. Like both of them being vengeful assholes together (for good reason, more tragedy befalls them than just Elena in her Sleeping Beauty Coma) is a fun thing for him, but the minute that stops (cue, when Matt and Bonnie fall in love and Bonnie realizes that this isn't who she really is, or who she wants to be) then the only thing Damon can do to prevent himself from killing her so he can reunite with Elena is to be away from them.
This isn't because he doesn't have real affection for Bonnie, because I think he does. I think he always cared for her on the basis of Bennett witch (Emily and that promise all those years ago) alone, but as he clearly states, when it comes down to Elena and ANYONE, he will choose Elena.
He is a different person now, he isn't as manic in his execution of things, but all the same, looking at Bonnie everyday, and especially seeing her and Matt build a happy life would be too much for him to tolerate. He would have to remove himself so that down the line he could have it himself.
EXCEPT, that of course, when that day comes, he's gonna have all this damage and baggage to go with it. So it won't be that simple either.
Now, is this something you could read about, or would it just cause you to want to debate pointlessly? You know me, I love a challenge to what I've carved out, because as long as I can explain it to myself, I'm good. HOWEVER, if it just irritates you, what would be the point of getting into it, you know?
Having a dark consultant is going to be necessary on this fic, but having someone who is just going to think it's all shit (stemming from a shitpile of TVD) won't be beneficial to either of us, I'm thinking. What do you think?
