My fangirl tendencies, and how it takes watching a movie for 27 years for me to really get it.

So, have you all ever seen the movie Some Kind of Wonderful? It is a John Hughes written (but not directed) film from 1987, about a high school love triangle. It was written in juxtaposition to the 1986 Hughes flick Pretty in Pink because that one didn't go the way he had planned it, so he had to write another similar story where the characters

First of all, the boombox scene is from Say Anything, WHICH YOU NEED TO SEE STAT! Because John Cusack's greatest role is Lloyd Dobler!




I could make a whole post just about that movie, but I'd want to do a rewatch before spewing thoughts. But, just trust me. Cameron Crowe, before he was Cameron Crowe. SO GOOD.

Some Kind of Wonderful is Lea Thompson-Eric Stoltz-Mary Stuart Masterson, and yes, you should see it, because it's really good. And it's really funny, too. But it's real, and all about social class and love and independence. And as I've just realized: feminism! LOL.

Can't Buy Me Love is not on the same level as these films, IMHO. It's okay, but I don't own it.

Jeez-louise, what was I doing in the 80's? Why do I not remember any of this? I must have been too busy watching Roadhouse and straight-to-video Dolph Lundgren movies. (I was too busy doing that. I'm strange.)

Yes. Every day. For years. (Patrick Swayze stuff made it into the collection.)

But I didn't see any Brat Pack movies until I was a teenager (mid-late 90's).

Yeah, DD is one of those that when I was 13, I watched everyday for months and months, and then when I was 19 and when I was 25 and when I was 30 and so on and so forth...There is just something about it that causes obsessiveness.

I was coming of age on all those mid-80s movies, though I never saw The Breakfast Club until I was like 15 (1990) because it was R rated, LOL. But I would definitely say, top five 80s teen movies, ever:

1) TBC
2) Say Anything
3) Some Kind of Wonderful
4) Footloose
5) Pretty in Pink
