The gif is from 1x03 "Friday Night Bites" when Damon has crashed Stefan and Elena's dinner party and then he's hanging out with her in the kitchen, cleaning up. He's casually bringing Katherine up again, and he reveals that she died. And Elena tells him she's sorry because he "lost her, too." And you totally see him pause. And think. And something begins to change.
It's hard for me not to wax poetic about it...but I shall stop myself.
I really want Bonnie and Damon to come back with this very close friendship that sort of freaks Elena out. I think that would be a fun storyline (and I wrote a fic like that during S3, so you know, psychic! :D).
I was interested in Ivy--not invested, but interested, so I was shocked they killed her so fast. And of course all I want for Stefan is Stefan and Caroline, too, but another friend of mine pointed out that Ivy will be there so the triangle isn't Elena/Stefan/Caroline, which obviously, after Stef's big speech, it can never be that again. So he'll have Ivy to "protect" and "mentor" and for Caroline to be rampantly jealous of. I can see it working.
Ah, I am so discouraged with the thought of Matt Donovan ever having a real love interest. IMO, Zach Roerig has chemistry with EVERYONE, but I just want it to be like...like, he's someone's prince charming (because he seriously is Prince Charming, incarnate). Like, not that he's the 'safe choice' or whatever, but that someone recognizes him for the devastatingly handsome, bone-liquefying sexy he is, and that, okay, maybe he doesn't have any supernatural shit to deal with but he's had a genuinely rough life and he needs love dammit!
