Okay, so what I got out of them in Inmates was far too brief (I want MOARRRRR) but it was kicking me in the gut every time he *looked* at her. It was never *written*, it was never even really *subtext*, but right away, I got this feeling that he always had his eye on her. Not in a way that even had his wheels spinning to do something about it, and even now, it's not like, here's my chance!, but it's like he's been watching her so long, he definitely can't stop now, and now he has nothing to hide behind.

IKR? It haunted me, and then this prompt provoked me and I've been down the rabbit hole ever since! It makes me happy that when I go back and read this it still feels right. There's much more canon to work with now, but I feel like I read them correctly from the get-go.
