Some Damon/Elena fic recs...
For the most part, I try to avoid WIPs. I much prefer the one-shot; it works for me with time, instant gratification, and sometimes inspires my own writing. But there are a couple authors that I follow over at The Pit and they write WIPs and I always get sucked in. So I am sharing my woe in the hopes that there will be others like me, endlessly waiting for an update. You know the saying: Misery Loves Company!
[1] I have recced this author before on a story that is still one of my most favorites ever (Breaking Point, in which Elena asks Damon to help her learn to fight compulsion) and so I check her page periodically. At the beginning of the hiatus she wrote Pursuit. [I enjoyed the ending, it even made me cry, but I didn't buy the beginning at all, and thus I didn't rec it. So, read it if you like, but I'm not reccing it, per se.] Now, however, she's writing Imposter, a fic in which Elena shows up at the Boarding House pretending to be Katherine and ends up going hunting with Damon. AND I LOVE IT. It's really great, and much more along the lines of Breaking Point in feeling for me, so I'm plugging it.
[2] I got sucked into this one, too, even though there is some questionable characterization--I had another friend say she couldn't read it at all because it didn't feel right to her, but strangely enough for me, the characterization that bothered me most was what was done with Meredith. (I make no sense, I know.) Anyway, Dark Stars Shine Bright works for me otherwise, especially now that I've heard Ian's remarks about Damon's mindset going into S4. Be prepared for bitter, angry Damon and majorly messed up baby!vamp Elena.
[3] This I stumbled upon and it's my FAVORITE right now...it's an alternate universe fic from 3x18 when Rebekah is torturing Damon. She compels him to hurt Elena, and so far the story is about the struggle Damon is going through mentally to NOT hurt Elena. Out of My Mind will probably drive me bananas as I'm awaiting updates.
[4] This isn't a WIP, but it just popped up on my f-list today by upupa_epops: Nothing To Write Home About is a lengthy one-shot. It plays at being tragic, but it didn't make me feel sad. Somehow, at the end I was hopeful for Elena. [This could be the Zoloft talking, so if it depresses you, ignore me.] Unlike the first two fics on this rec list, Elena is not a vampire as yet. It's fun to spend a bit more time with human!Elena, knowing we won't have that come October.
[Mostly I did this post so I would have a place to come to click on everything much more easily. LOL. I am selfish.]
