Dun dun dun! And the drama returns!!! What would a Damon/Elena story be without some though, right? And the bomb has officially been dropped. Now standing by for explosion. Off to next chapter holding my breath. I. Love. This. Story. And punctation in this comment apparently :P xoxox Meg
I did a word count when I finished this chapter (a big_bang is supposed to be 25k) and it took over 27k to even get to Elena saying she was pregnant. LONGEST. STORY. EVAH. But yeah, I"m glad it felt like a bomb being dropped because that's definitely how Damon reacts. He runs for cover like crazy.
Fuck him eighty ways until the end of time; this is not going to go at all how he planned.
Luckily for Damon, when his epic plans fail epic-ly things tend to work out much better than whatever he dreamed up.
And can I just say that I love Lydia? I think she needs to transfer to MF High School stat. I am also massively jealous of the view she was treated to during Damon and Elena's post-coital argument. Oh the perks of being Elena's roomy…
LASTLY, I am so glad that you posted this all at once; I don't think I could stand the suspense of waiting to find out how Damon reacts to Elena's news.
Wow, did not see that coming at all. Loved him calling her baby. . .so perfect.
When he swore to Katherine that he would give up Elena to keep Stefan away from her my heart just grew a little for the boy that re-found his bond to his brother. . .again perfect.
Yeah the whole point of this fic was that it was baby fic--it just took more than halfway through it to get there! Damon and Elena have SO MANY ISSUES!
I, too, loved Damon's refound sense of family--and how no matter what, he's changed in ways that he can't go back from. He didn't intend to feel the way he did, but he still moved forward on that feeling.
This is just all kinds of wonderful!!! It was just perfect that now, when they're finally at long last crossing that line between them, they are so desperate for the physical contact that they get each other off against the wall of the sorority house. Putting Damon's plans in there as well just added to the perfection. The runaway train analogy was very fitting.
Simply fabulous is how I would describe the bedroom scene. There were so many great details: chasing the lightening in each others eyes, Damon being overwhelmed with his emotions, and Elena admonishing him not to leave. The piece de resistance was being in Damon's head about never being able to leave - everDamon's issues are so deeply seated that he honestly cannot even allow himself to believe in the possibility of Elena loving him. He's so very broken. This scene felt so real and in character for both of them. Of course this would be the topic of their first fight. Oh, and the angst factor is deliciously high as this is a rather

You know, by the time you get here, you just want them to "do it, already!" I mean, that's how I felt writing it, and it's how I wanted the reader to feel, and nothing felt more right then it not being particularly romantic at all--it was just desperate and heated, and with their inhibitions down, so honest, which is what everyone wants them to finally be with each other: honest! It made it so much easier for Elena to be honest with words later, and I feel like that's what made Damon able to believe it (or unable to convince himself it wasn't true) because the whole thing was the opposite of planned.
I swear, every time Ric and Damon interacted in this fic, I just wanted to write them forever. They were so much fun, and officially became my 2nd favorite pairing for the show. They are so much fun, and so real, always.
Katherine coming in like a wrecking ball is another of my favorite parts, though. She's so fun to write, and she was so much more important to the story than I gave her credit for at first.
Well, it has to be said: Holy Shit! I was not expecting that! Although, I suppose it makes sense, now that he's a werewolf...which you were totally alluding to when you replied to me earlier, weren't you? As for the list:
-Damon's internal monologue is perfection. -...making his heart literally feel like nacho cheese in his chest. is one of the best similes I've ever read. -Damon/Alaric friendship is perfect -As is Alaric being the default father-figure to Elena -And finally, how the hell is Damon going to leave Elena to find Stefan with the thought of a baby?
My favorite trope is baby!fic, so when I fell for Damon and Elena and knew there was no chance of baby!fic with them, I was a little sad.
Then the hybrid idea popped up on the show, and I suddenly thought: WHAT IF? What if Damon became a hybrid and could make babies? Then the Big_Bang turned up on my f-list, and the rest is history!
So, yes, I was alluding to the that as the whole point of the fic--baby!fic! :D
I've never had as much fun as I do writing Damon. He's got the best inner monologue, all the time.
