Let's have a moment where I discover that some men react to Damon Salvatore like I do....
(minus the wanting to sex him up part...)
So, my almost-24 year-old nephew Jerry and his lovely wife Sarah recently moved to my town in California. (They were living in Utah while she got her degree at BYU, but she graduated and now they're back in their home state, and Jerry has always wanted to live here because this is where he was born, but they moved away when he was three.) So, as soon as they got settled, I loaned them my S1 DVDs of The Vampire Diaries.
What? I said I let them get settled, didn't I? So I gave them the DVDs on Tuesday last week, and they were done with the season by Saturday night. They came over for dinner yesterday and wanted to immediately start watching S2 (for which they are so grateful to me for being obsessed and recording everything). I wanted to watch "The Return" with them anyway because, YOU KNOW. It's incredible, and it's devastating, and well, I just wanted to see their reaction to EVERYTHING.
First of all, prior to watching, we ate dinner and discussed how they both had grown to love Damon over S1--and how they both just want him to be happy and have some goodness because he always gets the shaft. THEY SAID ALL OF THIS WITHOUT MY PROMPTING, MIND YOU. Then we pop in "The Return" and my nephew said no less than three times, "I LOVE HIS FACE!" I mean, seriously? It's ridiculous what Damon evokes in people, and I love it. So then, we come to the moment--Damon snaps Jeremy's neck and Jerry screams, "Nooooooo!" A beat goes by and then he's like, "Oh, now I'm mad at Damon!" and Sarah puts her hand on his arm and says, "Oh, but he's sad."
I CANNOT MAKE THIS SHIT UP, CAN I?
Then we watch 2x02 and 2x03, and when Damon asks Elena to forgive him and she rejects him, both of them took these shaky breaths, and were gutted by it. So I said to Jerry, "So you think Elena should forgive him already, huh?" and Sarah was like, "Get over it, he's not dead!"

Anyway, I just had to share, because it's so nice to share something you love with people you love and see eye-to-eye on all of it.
