There was an intervention going on. An honest to God intervention, for a friend's drinking problem. Sam couldn't get himself upset. Yes, he cared about Pamela and the drinking wasn't good for her, but in the grand scheme of things it wasn't like they needed her at 100%. Pamela was her own person and could do what she wanted, and as long as she didn't die Sam figured things were okay. Besides, what else was she supposed to do with herself on this island, especially knowing that back home the world was ending and she was dead?

Sam was in no position to judge her. If Dean had gone, Sam would have made an appearance, just to make sure his brother didn't hassle him for not caring. But without that threat, Sam was content to sit this one out. Pam had enough people who cared about her. They didn't need Sam. Nor did they need an excuse to notice his problems.

The snow made it hard to stalk around the island with a brooding set to his shoulders, so Sam had to take up residence in the Hub, which seemed always open. And a good thing too. What better way to ignore a friend's problems than to take up a drink and ignore your own?
