"I've always wondered what your room is like," Yosuke said. He was standing in the middle of Souji's room, surveying it from top to bottom. "It's somewhat plain, but not boring, you know? I guess I shouldn't be surprised."
Yosuke walked over to the shelves and eyed a model that Souji had made for a request from the ema.
"Whoa dude - did you make this?"
Souji nodded.
"It's flawless!" Yosuke was gaping at it. "I tried to make models when I was a kid, but I'm too impatient for that stuff. ...I ended up breaking the wings of the plane." He laughed. There was a pause. Yosuke then stood up straight and winced slightly.
"Man, it's like you're good at everything...school, sports, Shadows...probably some more things that start with S..."
"Sex?" Souji suggested jokingly.
Yosuke cracked up. "Yeah, right - I know you're involved with Chie now, but she's not letting you get any, no way. Keep dreamin'."
Souji looked away nervously.
"...Right?" Yosuke asked slowly. "Have you ever brought a girl up here? You haven't, right?"
"Ah - well, that is - what about you?"
"You first."
Souji sighed and looked sheepish.
"No, I haven't," he admitted.
Yosuke breathed a sigh of relief. "Me neither," he said.
They couldn't help but crack up after that moment of tension. After they finished laughing, Yosuke's expression turned serious.
"But really, man, you do have Chie, and eventually you're gonna wanna bring her here and...you know." He turned a little red.
"Oh yeah, definitely," Souji said quickly. "Yeah, I mean, not a big deal or anything. It'll be fine."
"What are you gonna do when she tells you she loves you?" his best friend asked. Souji's expression was blanker than ever. Yosuke groaned. "No, you can't give her that look, she'll be scarred for life!"
"Well, what would you do, then?" Souji said loudly, getting a little frustrated. How was he supposed to know these things?
Yosuke's face lit up. "Here, I have an idea - I'll be Chie, and you be you. We can act it out, would that help?"
Souji opened his mouth to object, but Yosuke was already all fired up. He pursed his lips and twirled a lock of his hair around his fingers. In a voice three octaves higher than his own, Yosuke said, "Oh, Souji! You're so hot! Take me now!"
Souji burst out laughing. He could feel the tears burning the corner of his eyes. What a terrible impression of Chie! Yosuke laughed too.
"That was...awful!" Souji said after he regained composure. "Besides, Chie and I aren't even serious or anything yet. Even if we were, I'm sure that her confession of love would be a little different."
Yosuke clasped his hands together and rested his head on them. In his Chie voice, he said, "I love you as much as I love when Yosuke-sama has to buy me steak!"
They laughed again, but then Yosuke stopped smiling and shook his head. "I'll be serious this time, I promise. I don't want you to totally blow it when the time comes."
"Fine, but you can't talk in that voice, I'll just laugh again," Souji said.
"I'm not talking in my own voice, that'd be weird," Yosuke replied firmly. "I'll try and make it less ridiculous."
He stood in front of Souji, slouching a bit to make himself shorter. They were about a foot and a half apart. He looked up at Souji with bright eyes and said, "Ah...I've been thinking about a lot of things lately..."
He'd lowered the pitch of his voice a bit. It was still nothing like Chie's, but Souji felt he acted the part of a lovestruck girl relatively well, with all his cutesy body language and stammering.
"Ah, er, like what?" Souji asked, tugging at his collar nervously.

Yosuke's face a was a little red at this point. Souji became painfully aware of how close they were standing and said breathlessly, "You're blushing, Yosuke."
"I'm-I'm Chie, remember?" he snapped, turning even redder.
"You sure don't sound like it," Souji murmured.
"Well, I'm just trying to - I don't know, but I'm Chie! S-so respond like I'm her!" Yosuke replied. For some reason, Yosuke felt a lump in his throat and a flutter in his stomach.
Souji nodded. He'd never been a man of many words, so he decided that the best thing to do would be to give him - er, her - a hug.
"Wh-what are you-" Yosuke stammered. His arms were folded up against Souji's chest. He could hear Souji's heart beating rapidly - or was that Yosuke's own?
"It seemed like the right thing to do...in that situation...I mean, I dunno..." Souji was still holding Yosuke in his arms.
"This is kind of strange," Yosuke said. His breathing was staggered and heavy.
Suddenly Souji realized what was happening and released Yosuke. He folded his arms and looked up towards the ceiling.
"Er, yeah, well, thanks, that helped," Souji said awkwardly.
Yosuke scratched his head. "Y-yeah, no problem."
A heavy silence hung in the air.
"Do you want a drink or something...?" Souji asked, trying to break the awkwardness.
"Uh, yeah, that sounds good," Yosuke said, trying to laugh, though it came out sounding like a small yelp instead.
Souji turned around to go downstairs. He opened his bedroom door slightly and then stopped.
"Those were some really kind things Chie said," Souji said, still facing away from Yosuke. "It made me really happy."
Yosuke said nothing. He looked slightly pained.
"I just didn't know what to say in return. I'm not very good at putting my feelings into words, even if I can hear them in my head. I don't even really know what I was trying to say..." Souji stood there, totally still.
He suddenly felt someone tug at his right hand. Yosuke had come up behind him. He turned around and saw Yosuke looking directly into his eyes and entwining his fingers into Souji's own.
"Um, yeah, I don't really know what I'm doing either, to be honest," Yosuke said, blushing harder than ever.
Even Souji was blushing at this point. He slowly pulled Yosuke close to him again. Their arms were around each other's waists, and Yosuke's head laid cautiously on Souji's shoulder. They stayed like that for a long time before Yosuke pulled away a bit and said, "You really are an interesting guy, I'll give you that..."
